🍿 This Week's Schedule!

Hey everyone!

This week is another exciting one because I'm jumping into a new show! As promised, we are diving into The Pacific- Something I have been eager to watch ever since finishing Band of Brothers. Firefly and Serenity were the perfect breather after all that emotional intensity, but I'm ready to step back into another powerful WWII series that so many consider a companion piece to Band of Brothers. I'll be watching two episodes per week, and thanks to an incredibly kind Patreon member who gifted me the Blu-ray set, I'll also get to watch the veteran interviews before each episode for even more insight. Thank you again, Ian!

Here's what's coming this week:

📺 The Pacific (Part One & Part Two): A powerful new series begins! After my breather, I think I'm finally ready for more emotional intensity and beauty that made Band of Brothers so unforgettable.

🎟️ Whiplash (Movie Ticket Pick by Maz!): I know absolutely nothing about this one, but if Maz loves it, I know I'm in for something awesome!

🕶️ The Matrix Revolutions: After the absolutely mind-bending ride of Reloaded, I can't wait to see where this next installment takes us.

🍿 Captain Marvel: I knew that had to be her symbol on Fury's pager before the snap.. This means we are one step closer to Endgame!

Some other news:

🐨 Movie Poll Coming Tomorrow! It's time for another Patreon vote on what movie we'll be diving into next week!
🐨 New Movie Tickets Coming Next Week! Since my current movie tickets are all used up after this week, I'll be releasing TWO more tickets next week. More details will come later in the week.

Thank you all so much for being here and making this corner of the internet such a cozy, fun, and vibey space 🩷 Looking forward to this week with you all!

I just finished your reaction to "Airplane!". You got more of the jokes than most reactors, even those that are older than you. It is refreshing to see someone your age that appreciates truly good comedy from days gone by. Your reaction was one of the best out of at least 50, probably more actually, reactions that I have watched. Thank you for a fun watch. Since you asked for more comedy recommendations, I will oblige. Hello! Please react to one of these films. They are educational and based on real events. These films are watched in one breath. These are Soviet films about the Great Patriotic War. (World War II) Amazing films, with English subtitles. Thank you! I used Google Translate. Liberation. Film 1: The Fire Bulge  | WAR MOVIE | FULL MOVIE https://youtu.be/9ZraM-TvRXA Hot snow | WAR FILM | FULL MOVIE https://youtu.be/NtkRkPTfy_0&t=1s They Fought for Their Country | WAR MOVIE | FULL MOVIE (2 parts!!!!) I don't want to offend or hurt anyone, but Hollywood has never made such great war movies.

If Back to the Future wins, I would like to reserve two seats in the front row (one for me and one for my giant tub of Kettel Korn). 💐

james flack

I'm really excited for Captain Marvel this week 😊

C.80

lol yes, definitely!

Kali Wali

Does romantic comedy qualify as comedy? 🫣

Richard

Sorry I'm just now seeing this! I'd have to say Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Action, and Comedy.. There's four just in case haha

Kali Wali

The firm is an EXCELLENT legal thriller.

KJ Gould

I second The Firm. It was filmed in my hometown.

Paul Wright

Kali, could you list your 3 favorite movie genres for me in case I end up with a movie ticket?

Richard

Oh jeez! Based on that description I'm nervous but excited to see what you mean by Whiplash hahaha After watching Band of Brothers, I've been looking forward to The Pacific. It's by the same producers, which is amazing, but I've heard it's a very different approach to another facet of WWII.

Kali Wali

Ahh very thoughtful breakdown!! I was wondering about Aliens (and got a ton of "you need to see that!" after Infinity War lol) but I have heard that it's scary and a bit nightmare inducing so I'm more hesitant on a reaction to that. I have a feeling Alien would stick with me in a way I'm not ready for based on your comment about it lol, but Terminator? I am excited to jump into that one soon. I really appreciate the cheat sheet here! I love that both of these were groundbreaking for female leads and I'm looking forward to seeing what you mean by that when I finally jump into them.

Kali Wali

Ahh awesome!! I'm looking forward to it, too!

Kali Wali

Oh no! I've heard it's definitely on a different level than Band of Brothers even though it's by the same producers

Kali Wali

I would suggest that Terminator 2 is the ideal close to that franchise, rather than 3. It's not the most terrible movie, but it was a drop from the quality of T2, which I feel it's one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time 🙂

Stuart Brewster

I've watched Band Of Brothers sooo many times, at least once a year, but I've never been able to get into The Pacific. I got a couple of episodes in and still couldn't name any characters, I found it hard to get as invested 😕

Stuart Brewster

Hej Kali, I look forward to your reaction to Captain Marvel. The film is still in my TOP3 favorite MCU productions. Super movie, I always have a great time with it.

Łukasz Jarczewski

OK Kali, since you keep getting hit with Alien and Terminator, I’m going to give a quick cheat-sheet rundown. There are some parallels. Firstly, Alien,Aliens,Terminator, and Terminator 2 are universally recognized as all-time classics of their genres. 3 of the 4 were written and directed by James Cameron. They are groundbreaking for strong female leads, especially the sequels; and the sequels also have strong motherhood themes which you could relate to. The 3rd movies of each franchise are a mixed bag and offer a darker but also somewhat satisfying conclusion to the trilogy; everything after is mostly lame cash grab. I was not desensitized to that sort of thing when I saw Alien and it gave me nightmares for years. We don’t want our sweet precious Kali having nightmares, so I think Terminator is more your thing. Alien, Aliens, and T2 are among my favorite movies ever tbh. Hope that helps!

Richard

No problem John, we’re all friends here

Richard

Excited for the letterboxdvd in case I decide to get into the Movie Ticket business. Also excited for the poll. Thanks for these perks Kali, and thank your editor for us too.

Richard

Excited for the poll! Whiplash is intense. One of those mean little movies that works you into a ball of tension and doesn't let go. I haven't seen the Pacific! Maybe it's time to give it a go?

David

oh god, whiplash. that movie is INTENSE. Its not a horror but i felt scared watching it lol. RIP!!!

Phil Tilly

Oooh awesome breakdown really appreciate this explanation! I'm looking forward to The Pacific, too!

Kali Wali

Movie suggestions Crimson tide (1995) Enemy of the state (1998) The firm (1993)

Rashad Walker

Hi Kali! Just wanted to give you one last reminder to make sure you watch the historical backgrounds for The Pacific that *should* be available on your Blu Ray box set of the series! Each time you put in a disc (assuming it’s 2 episodes/disc like my set is) and choose to play an episode/part, you’ll be given the option to “Play with Historical Background”. Just make sure you choose that one instead of just “play”. The historical backgrounds are done in two or so minutes before the ‘HBO’ intro pops up on every episode, so you can just start the watch-along timer as soon as you see the HBO sign come up since most people probably won’t be watching along with the historical backgrounds version. If for whatever reason you aren’t given the option to play with historical backgrounds on the disc version you have, the exact same historical backgrounds to each episode are also available on YouTube in a single compiled video by the channel “Reel History”. The video is tiled “”The Pacific” Historical Introductions - Narrated by Tom Hanks”. It’s a little tricky to tell where each episode segment in that video ends, but I know the intros by heart and can give you the video timestamps so you know which minutes of the vid to watch before each episode! In my opinion, and I think you’ll agree with me, the interviews at the beginning of each episode are one of the best parts of the series (just like Band of Brothers) so I think it’s totally worth watching them! I’ll gladly link the YouTube vid of the intros and list the timestamps for each episode’s intro in the comments here if you request it! That said, if you can’t find a way to watch the intros with us, (or don’t feel like reacting to the intros on YouTube before each episode) don’t worry about it! It’s really just to enhance your own time with the series, but it’s still a great series on its own! Can’t wait to start watching along with you!

Jake McGrath

Thank you for the kind words and looking out! Band of Brothers did wreck me a bit. Maybe for the next Patreon movie poll, I should stick to funny movies for the time being and hold the heavy ones until after my time in Pacific has ended.. Or I'll just do like you said, and take a break if needed. Appreciate you looking out!

Kali Wali

Yeah people were definitely getting a bit wild towards the end of the premiere! I'm thinking I'll probably not premiere anymore MCU films until Endgame happens and just premiere that one. So unfortunately YouTube won't get a premiere for Ant-Man and the Wasp or Captain Marvel... But after the crazy chat going I think that's probably best! :) And thank you for the room decor recommend! It does seem like my lighting right now really relies on where the sun is at and it can change at any moment lol. Unfortunately I live where there is a really strict HOA so blacking out my windows isn't an option. I'll definitely be playing around with the light a lot more as I get more settled into the space!

Kali Wali

Oo thank you for the headsup!

Kali Wali

I'm sure you've probably heard this but The Pacific is to test every bit of your ability to handle war time brutality. Don't be afraid to take a week off here and there if you need to. This is not meant to be any sort of spoiler you can see this on any documentary, it was a much different war on that side of the world. Take care of yourself first. Otherwise, I am looking forward (for lack of a better term) of going through this again through your reactions.

John A

My bad. I guess I’m out of the loop. :)

Tyson Vonn Beck

Sorry to slide into your comment but why must people be jerks (I would like to use a different word but I'm keeping it clean) and spoil such an important movie in the MCU? I'm with him, do everything you can to not be spoiled, even if that means filming your reaction asap after Captain Marvel and releasing it the following week. That way no one can mess that experience up for you. It was another one that I went and saw late Thursday night on opening weekend to avoid even the slightest chance of any spoilers. It's epic by all definition of the word.

John A

But everyone has reacted to Whiplash...

Seth Brasch

Fun lineup! Kali, I’m strongly thinking you might want to avoid live chat for Captain Marvel - there were some buttholes yesterday that seemed intent on spoiling Endgame for you. Of all movies ever made, that is one you definitely don’t want spoiled. Even if you can’t post it right away I hope you see it soon before hearing spoilers. So in case I don’t have a chance to converse with you before you see it, I’ll just say the plot is going to take you to crazy, sad, unexpected places - just be patient and ride the wave girl! The payoff is huge. You will definitely get chills. You might have out-of-body experiences. The film hits so hard it can change your life. 😲 Quick idea for your decor, there is equipment you can use so that you can hang from the ceiling all around you lighting, plants, trinkets, etc. If you pick the right lights your face would be bathed in a soft glow for your videos 😍. Have a great week and see you in the Captain Marvel comments!

Richard

Very excited for The Pacific! I've watched through about half the episodes so far on my own time and have been loving it! And of course, awesome slate of movies! Very happy to see you continuing your Matrix journey this week too

M1 Maz

Another epic week! Just a heads up that Endgame doesnt have an end credit scene. However, there are special credits and it's best to just let them play. Can't say anything else without spoilers.

Simon Haynes

Looking forward to Whiplash!

Robert da Spruce

Great pick, Maz!

Ian Forbes

Nice. Whiplash. I love seeing rarely reacted to movies. There’s literally a treasure trove of amazing films no one has reacted to.

Tyson Vonn Beck

Whiplash is going to be crazy, I can't wait
