Back to the Future Part II | Patreon's Choice | Full Reaction

I knew I'd love this one just as much as the first! The way they expanded on the first film, jumping between the future, alternate timelines, and back to 1955, was mind-blowingly awesome! Seeing 2015 through the lens of 1989 was both hilarious and fascinating. The hoverboards, flying cars, self-lacing Nikes, and neon-lit fashion felt so outlandish yet oddly believable. Those AI Cafe screens actually scared me bahaha. The way it revisited moments from the first movie while shifting perspectives felt genius. It made the entire experience feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time!

And the darker twists with Biff's alternate 1985 added a whooole heap of tension that I didn't expect. I loved how the film played with consequences and that cause-and-effect that had me glued to the screen yet again. Now with Doc seemingly yeeted to 1885, I can't wait for Part III!

Also, sorry for the little spoiler I got... You all totally warned me, and my brain completely forgot all the warnings LOL. Hopefully I didn't see too much. But I hope you all at least get a laugh out of my sheer moment of panic when I realized what was happening 🀣🀣🀣

Sorry I am late to the party here. Not sure if you noticed but Jennifer was a different actress as the original actress I believe was taking care of a sick relative (mother?) and couldn't be in parts 2 and 3. One of Biff's goons in this movie and the original movie was Billy Zane of Titanic fame. Crispin Glover (George McFly) did not return in these last two movies and later sued for the movies using his likeness without permission. Not so much that they hired an actor that resembled him as you can't do much about that but that they used makeup to mimic his appearance. The Cubs, infamous for not winning the World Series in decades, actually won the World Series in 2016, this movie was only off by one year! With today's Hollywood being creatively bankrupt in my opinion since most movies are either sequels or reboots the idea of Jaws 19 is sadly accurate. I just saw a trailer for yet another Predator movie and I jokingly thought to myself "Oh great, Predator 97 is coming out." BTW you need to watch Jaws, just the original as it is masterful and is the movie that put both Steven Spielberg and John Williams on the map. In terms of westerns one of the greatest is Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, but you should watch some "normal" westerns first to appreciate what makes Unforgiven different and great. Of course Eastwood's The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is a classic with the legendary score you have heard before even if you never realized it was from this movie. Another western I love is the remake of 3:10 To Yuma and the remake of True Grit, two rare cases where the remake is better imo than the originals.

I am cracking up that you complained about the paper getting wet because it infuriates me EVERY TIME

Chris Truex

Always happy to watch this Trilogy. Normally im kinda picky about Hollywoods time traveling cause its always wrong but BttF is so funny, the cast is so great and it doesnt take itself so serious i can easily forgive and forget the typical wrong doings you get with Hollywoods time traveling. Also always smiling thinking about the work that has gone into changing the town square set to each time period. Looking forward to the third one. Take care Kali.

Curaitis

LOL πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Kali Wali

I agree! It's kinda funny how it worked out where this was the trilogy I went into after Endgame. 🀣 I can't believe how much BttF shaped so much in the Sci-Fi/Time-travel world. Ahhh thank you for explaining the backwards 66! I wanted to google it so bad, but didn't in fear of spoilers for the final one lol. That's really funny how we all see it differently though. And yes! I'm really looking forward to Part III next week! See you there!

Kali Wali

Oo I've heard The Karate Kid trilogy is great and I think I saw some ads for a new one coming out sometime this year?? I'll have to watch those! I can totally see why BttF2 would be a favorite. It was soooo much fun to see 2015 through the lens of the 80's haha. And that is hilarious! 🀣 My parents were also super strict, but that just meant that I couldn't watch any TV except Disney Channel or Game Show Network until I was old enough to buy my own TV lol πŸ˜πŸ‘€

Kali Wali

It only had 3 seasons, but it's all gold. Amazing characters and great writing. I'm not sure why more people don't know about it. It got 8 Emmy awards with 28 nominations and one Golden Globe. It has an IMDB score of 8.6 and 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Einherj

It's hilarious that you can literally see when my brain clicks, like WAIT AHH 🀣 Glad you enjoyed this one as much as I did!

Kali Wali

LOL I was SO late realizing that I was watching the spoiler y'all warned me about πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Kali Wali

I can't believe it took me SO long to figure out that I was watching the spoiler so many people warned me about 🀣🀣🀣 Shows you the week I've had. I think my synapses are a misfiring a bit hehe I also gotta agree with you LOL. The cause and effect of these movies really don't add up, and I really started to notice after watching this one. But! It's still a really fun adventure and it makes it feel super unknown and unpredictable which is something I really enjoy from movies and shows I watch! I love your Rule of Cool hahaha. Yes! And right!? Biff is not observant at ALL. There were a few times where that exact thought went through my mind πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ And super true about how interesting it is to see 2015 through a 80's lens. Makes you a bit sad that we really haven't come THAT far, but at the same time... We really have with AI and technology in general! But I can't help but feel like we are living in a bit of an evil Biff reality, too 😭

Kali Wali

Fantastic reaction as usual!! My favorite part is when you yelled, "you didn't see titties!!" That made my day!🀣🀣

DirtySteve

Yes! There were so many awesome tiny details just scattered around! My brain felt a bit overloaded looking around the future house with all of the little things to pick up 🀯🀣 And totally felt like a future through the 80's lens with all those subtle name brand drops bahaha. I was also pretty mind blown about the cyber implants.. Seems like even the 80's foresaw us being microchipped in some form in the future. Which honestly scared me bahaha And yesss, the past, present and future was really fun! It totally felt like one huge movie and makes watching 1 and 2 back-to-back feel like all one huge time traveling adventure 🀣 It was sooooo well done! And I get why everyone calls this one of the best trilogies of that time. I don't really understand why The Matrix wasn't taken the same way by media. Because honestly, you could also watch all three of those in one sitting and feel like you've been in the same film that entire time The classic cars were so well made.. That attention to detail. Chefs kiss. And that is hilarious that there is a "we don't need roads" trophy in your racing game LOL! This movie really did influence soooo much. I had no idea that quote came from here until Doc dropped it at the end of the first one!

Kali Wali

I love the theme song so much! hahaha I also have been humming it. And LOL I felt so bad that I literally watched the spoiler that everyone warned me about.. But at least you got a laugh out of it πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Kali Wali

Ahhh hahaha. Thank you for explaining that! I knew I missed something there, but I don't follow sports so I wasn't sure what I missed. It definitely went over my head 🀣

Kali Wali

Oo don't think I've had that recommendation before!

Kali Wali

LOL I think I need something higher off the ground 🀣

Kali Wali

I had a hell of a year leading up to it, I promise I really needed it! I still went to work every day though. Just everything outside of work, I took it super easy.

Cory Stanish

The funniest part about having seen this movie as a kid when it came out is that I was able to watch all of these future predictions fail to become reality in real time. I'm okay with most of it, though. After a lifetime of watching people drive cars on the ground, I'm pretty sure flying cars for everyone might actually he a horrible idea.

Cory Stanish

Also, fun fact: The old man who accidentally gave Marty the idea to bet on future sporting events - who is actually the same guy who fixed Biff's car in 1955 - was the voice of Roger Rabbit as well as his friend Benny.

Cory Stanish

Yes! But they weren't the Miami Marlins until 2012

Cory Stanish

It's a lot of fun watching this so close to Avengers: Endgame. The whole Back to the Future trilogy really had a huge impact on timetravel-related storytelling. 😊 The "backwards 66" was just the flaming "tire-tracks" of the DeLorean doing a loop-the-loop in mid-air. It was supposed to communicate that the DeLorean had time-travelled away. It's funny cause that always seemed so obvious to me, and I never registered it as a "backwards 66" but you're the third reactor I've seen that interpreted it that way! πŸ˜‚ So clearly, it's a common mistake. I'm looking forward to next week! I'm glad you're doing these in quick succession. There are so many small references back to earlier films that you might miss if you take too much time in between. Have a great weekend!

Onno Smits

Kali, another great reaction! I think your next 80's movies should be The Karate Kid trilogy (and maybe then the Netflix show Cobra Kai). It is a time investment to watch Cobra Kai, but it's incredible. Back to this film though, BTTF 2 is actually my favorite movie of this trilogy. My parents never let me watch this when it came out (I was 10) because it had a few bad words in it (my folks were very strict, but they were just looking out for me, lol). But in the summer of 1990, my friend's dad took us to see BTTF 3 and I hadn't even seen the second one yet! 🀣 I was a little lost but it still made enough sense that I followed along. My parents then rented #2 from blockbuster the next weekend - with my mom putting the fear of God into me to NEVER say "s***." LOL...moms. 🀣

Matt Rowland

The Marlins started in 1993, not 2012.

Matt Rowland

Just finished this reaction... Fantastic as always, Kali! I never get tired of watching the expressions on your face! πŸ˜„ When you realized you were watching the spoiler, your reaction was priceless!

Phil Stubblefield

hobbit sized from day one! lol

Mister Lou

At the end of the movie, I was like pause, pause, pause, pause, Kali PAUSE!...lol! Too funny!!! I am glad that you enjoyed the movie. I absolutely loved the movie!. Michael J. Fox was flawless at portraying different characters in the film. Perfection!

Jonathan

The Miami Marlins aka the Florida Marlins started their first baseball team in 1993 and won their first World Series title in 1997.

Jonathan

Your reaction to realizing you were watching the forbidden preview was hilarious πŸ˜‚ I don't think you saw anything that you couldn't have already inferred would be happening in the movie. No big deal. As I rewatch these movies, I can't help but keep thinking about how the "cause and effect" nature of time travel in these movies makes no sense at all. But you also kind of have to admire the story for having the guts to just... not care about any of that. It's Rule of Cool. The movies want to have fun, and they're not going to let any pesky laws of metaphysics get in the way. Also, Biff must be one of the most unobservant dudes I've ever seen. How can you not notice a flying DeLorean right behind your car when you're the only two vehicles around for miles? I know his car was old but it still had a rearview mirror! But again, the plot is in the service of fun, not necessarily ironclad logic, or believability. Also also, this movie makes me kind of depressed about how optimistic we were about the future back in the 80's. That's heavy, man.

Dude Longcouch

Just like your experience with this movie, I LOVED how much time and effort they put into crafting the future! In general, I always love seeing in older movies how they represent the 'future' that we're now living in haha. It really did feel like a future through an 80's lens with all the brands and fads. It's kinda funny now playing games like Cyberpunk set in the slightly distant future and imaging how things might really be when we reach that year I also really enjoyed that we got both the past, present, and future in this one, and really got deep in the wild cause and effect situations. Blending new information with what we already saw in the previous film, making this all feel like one big movie haha It's funny how much better the cars in the 50's looked than the future haha. The classics never die. One other funny car thing: I was playing a racing game this evening right before hopping on to watch this with you. And was looking through the achievement / trophy list, and saw one called "....we don't need roads" and to get it, it's literally getting in a DeLorean and driving it to 88mph LOL

M1 Maz

Well now that I’ve been watching the BTTF trilogy it’s made me start humming the theme to it while I’m driving, thank you Kali! Don’t worry though I’m not taking my car up to 88 mph! πŸ˜‚ edit: seeing it take you a few seconds at the end before you realized you were watching a trailer for part 3 was hilarious.

TheJoeKerr

There's one joke in the 2015 part of the movie that always flies under the radar these days , and it's when Marty finds out that the Chicago Cubs beat Miami in the World Series. It was funny for two reasons: 1. The Cubs hadn't won a World Series since 1908. They were the perpetual bad-luck team that just couldn't get it together for some reason. They didn't actually end up winning a World Series again until 2016. 2. Miami didn't even have a Major League Baseball team in 1985, or in 1989 when this movie came out. They eventually did get one, but not until 2012. That's why Marty was incredulous when he found out about Miami. So not only was it a joke that doesn't land in the present, but it also predicted two future developments in the baseball world almost accurately.

Cory Stanish

If you love the old west, I recommend IMO the best western show ever made: Deadwood (2004).

Einherj

8.4 IMDB rating, 7 Emmy awards, and it was an HBO show till they sold it off. I'm just gonna say Sadie Adler. LOL

Trevor Go

I would think they must have an updated model of Herbie the Love Bug for you by now Kali. Maybe fewer blind spots too!

Richard

Crimson tide is one of my all time favs!

Rashad Walker

Yesss! I think that's what I love about these movies so much. They feel like true time capsules. It's really fun to see what past movies thought the future would be like. Some of it ends up being hilariously off, but other times, it feels like those ideas actually did shape real-world tech. And yes! Howard Stark did have that floating car prototype at the Stark Expo in the '40's! It wasn't quite ready for takeoff yet haha, but the idea was totally there. Still waiting on my own flying car, though. Hmm

Kali Wali

There are sooooo many easter eggs sprinkled in all of these films. It's amazing!

Kali Wali

I CAN'T believe I didn't' notice Elijah Wood playing that little kid. Another person commented on that and I had to go back and rewatch that part. Omg! He was so little haha

Kali Wali

What! How haven't I heard of this before! I'll have to check it out πŸ‘€

Kali Wali

Oooo a month off! That sounds absolutely amazing. I'm glad you get to wrap it all up with some awesome movies, though! 🍿✨ Glad this one released right on time for you!!

Kali Wali

Ooo interesting suggestions!

Kali Wali

WHAT that's Elijah Wood!? I totally didn't recognize him. He was a baby! lol

Kali Wali

bahahahha 🀣

Kali Wali

I see signs around lakes all the time that say β€œEvery day is a good day for fishing”. Seems like that would apply here πŸ˜„

Richard

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is awesome. Works on many levels.

Richard

πŸ˜‚ I love looking back at older movies to see what their version of the future looked like. I almost feel like a lot of the tech we have today was actually inspired by stuff like that. The Star Trek communicators and tricorders are obvious examples. Didn’t Howard Stark have the floating car in the 1940s?

Richard

a fun Easter egg, if you know, you know that the Director Robert Zemeckis also directed "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" in between Back To The Future 2 and 3, the tunnel at the end was the same Tunnel to get to Tune Town, also there's a stuffed Roger Rabbit doll sitting right next to the Sports Almanac in the window. Also there's a fun cameo with one of the kids he was showing how to be a "Crack Shot" in the game. take a closer look at the kid with the green hat. his eyes kind of gives him away.

Mister Lou

I joined after seeing your RDR2 playthrough. I'd love you to do Westworld. It is a crazy Western Series like playing a real-life RDR2. You will dig it!

Trevor Go

I can't believe my luck. I didn't have time to watch your Back to the Future reaction until today. Then I watched the Spider-Man reaciton. And by the time I finished that, this one was posted. It's just a kaliwali kind of day I guess, and perfect timing because I officially took a month off from doing anything responsible and today is the last day

Cory Stanish

Funny, another reactor did the same thing in her reaction (facial expression without commentary) and I wondered, "did she recognize the actor?" It was eventually resolved in the YouTube edit.

Andrew T

Btw would love for u to please check out crimson tide (1995) and no way out (1987)

Rashad Walker

Back to the future is one of my favorite franchise besides Rocky and karate kid

Rashad Walker

Doc being mad at Marty over the almanac when it was Docs idea in the 1st movie lol. The way your face perked up at little Elijah Wood in the diner at the arcade thought for sure you recognized him but didnt say anything so maybe not?
