The Pacific | Part Nine | Full Reaction

The raw and unrelenting portrayal of Okinawa was difficult to watch. Seeing Sledge and his fellow Marines pushed to their absolute limits physically, mentally, and morally was gut-wrenching. But what really got to me was watching the civilians caught in the crossfire of it all. It was so devastating to see families, especially children, trapped in the horror of war. It made me think about how war doesn't just destroy soldiers, but it also rips apart innocent lives too. The weight of that hit me way harder than I expected.

Man, this episode really did not spell anything out. It just hit. It's wild watching how much Sledge and Snafu changed. And also how in some strange way, Snafu's coping mechanisms actually kept a small piece of him intact still. Never would I have thought that looking at the two of them, would I see Sledge as the least even-keel of the two of them. But this episode showed the true change. The contrasts between them made it so painfully clear how much Sledge went through. And how much Snafu's coping actually made sense in the end. And wow yes, that moment with Sledge and his facial expressions. Especially his eyes, like you said. Actually haunting. You could hear every single thought without a single word spoken. Masterclass acting, for sure! I think this episode, out of them all, will stick with me the most. For many reasons. This is the one that actually broke me in a lot of ways.

I can't even imagine being in this situation over there. Hearing a baby cry and not trust that it isn't a bomb strapped somewhere close by. It's just so evil.

This episode put a lot of things in perspective. I don't think I need to elaborate beyond that, since I know you got it too based off your reaction and closing comments It's always interesting watching Sledge and Snafu the last few episodes. Snafu always seemed more 'gone' from the get go, but he kind of still preserved a part of himself through all the dark humor, and the other things he does. To the point that he was one of the more sane ones by the end, and he was looking out for everyone else. While Sledge, without that, just went deep deep down into a very dark place. Until like you said, his eyes were opened in that civilian home This episode really was a masterpiece with how uneasy it made us feel. And really put us there, with all of their emotions. The frustration, anger, fear. And the look in Sledge's eyes just gets me every time. He acted the whole episode so well

Yeah the civilians stuff was terrible can’t believe they actually did that and the baby man I was shocked. Imagine hearing a baby cry and think it’s a trap so sad
