Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi | Full Reaction

Wow. I honestly wasn't prepared for how much this one would move me!

There's so much heart in this film. The arc between Luke and Vader definitely hit me the hardest. The way Luke refuses to give up on his father, even when everything is pushing him toward hate. That light to dark to light journey.. So powerful. And when Vader makes that final choice to save his son, I felt it in my whole body. It's not just about redemption, but also love, legacy and the absolute strength it takes to come back from the darkness and step into the light again.

The music (as always) was stunning. John Williams doesn't just score scenes, he scores emotions! The tension in the throne room to the victory celebration had me feeling every note. Was it just me or was the music in this one EVEN better? Or maybe I'm just falling in love with this whole world and the Jedi theme is beginning to flow through me.

And Yoda.. Wise to the very end. His goodbye felt so gentle and final. But also, LEIA IS LUKE'S SISTER? They definitely kissed 😱👀 But honestly the way this all came together in this third film is just chef's kiss. I'm so grateful I got to experience these films fresh, and even more grateful to share it all with you guys!

Kali... can we say that Han is your favourite then ? Really fun how you kept calling The Emperor The Councillor. Guess you felt he needed demoting ! As an adult Empire is absolutely my fave, but as a 10-11 yr old when this was released, this was my fave movie of all time. I loved the aliens in Jabba's palace (a distinct improvement on the Cantina aliens). But the Ewoks were the best things I'd ever seen. All I used to do was take my plastic Star Wars Ewoks into the garden and make villages and traps for them and I still have my cuddly plush Wicket toy (he sits on my stairs). Wicket was played by 11yr old small person Warwick Davis (whom appears in Willow which you'd love). Imagine a kid being a Star Wars fan and then getting to meet all his heroes. The Ewoks were such a dichotomy between the industrial strength of the Empire's machines and nature. Despite how adults at the time thought they were simply a marketing ploy, I just adore them to this day. Jabba's den was populated with the worst of the worst. Smugglers, slavers, bounty hunters and other scum. The Rancor that Jabba kept under his throne was actually stunted and underfed, poor thing. The dance number was a Special Edition addition which fans of the original really don't like (akin to all the unnecessary Mos Eisley scenes in ep IV). And you can see how much better Jabba looked when he was practical over CGI. It all goes rapidly down hill from here...

There is always a lot of debate on the order that Star Wars should be watched. Your first time through I think release order is the best. If you rewatch at some point, going in chronological order is fun.

I'm a little late to the party, but I just watched the YT edit and felt the need to chime in. For a lot of Star Wars fans(especially those born in the 90s and up), it's easy to forget that George Lucas absolutely did not have everything planned out when he wrote A New Hope back in '75-'77. He had some rough ideas for more movies if the first was successful, but it was far closer to basic outlines rather than fully fleshed out stories. The two big things are, first, that Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were originally two separate characters. There was no metaphor in Obi-Wan's conversation with Luke about his father in A New Hope. At that moment in time, Vader had really, physically killed him. It was only when Lucas was writing Empire that he decided to make Anakin and Vader the same character and retroactively make that conversation a metaphor. The second big one is Luke and Leia's relationship. Lucas didn't decide they were siblings until he was writing Jedi. When the two of them kissed in A New Hope and Empire, they were not siblings and Lucas was just pushing the love triangle for standard dramatic tension. Just an FYI from an old fart to explain some of the weirdness. (I was alive for all of them, but Jedi was the first I saw in theaters. ;) ) I also hope you someday get to watch the "Despecialized Editions" that some fans have put together. These take the original theatrical releases and clean them up to more modern standards without any of the CGI or other changes Lucas added in the '90s and after. Or maybe they'll eventually be released officially(probably after Lucas's death).

I was 13 when one came out, and already considered myself a SW "old hat" by then - LOL - truthfully, the novelization of the movie came out a couple of weeks ahead of the movie release and I had read more than halfway through it, because those questions of a 10 year old were still burning in 13 year old me - so I went into this one VERY SPOILED and already having confirmed that Darth Vader was Luke's dad, and that Leia was Luke's sister - which REALLY WEIRDED ME OUT, considering all the kissing that had gone on prior. One the other hand, the fact that I didn't finish it before the movie came out made the ending much more exciting. As far as the "updated" version VS the original that I saw in the movies - my biggest actual complaint is mostly in the music - the original Lap Ti Nek song arrangement in the Hutt's palace ended up becoming a really popular Marching Band song (we played it my freshman year) and the finale song "Yub Nub" was way superior to the Victory Song replacement from the updated special edition IMHO. Still - this movie is a great resolution to the movie that made me a Lucasfilm kid and I'm so glad it has become a favorite of yours!
