Battlestar Galactica | S1 E7: Six Degrees of Separation | Full Reaction

I was just about to comment on how Six was dressed all conservatively for the first time ever because of her and Baltar's heated discussion on God. But then that scene turned into one of the most psychologically surreal episodes so far. She was actually there. In the Cylon flesh. Pointing fingers at Baltar for betraying the entire human race.

From that moment on, everything shifted. And there was a moment when I found myself actually wondering, was that really Baltar in the evidence? Did he really do that? But then the so-called 'evidence' turns out doctored and Shelly 'Godfrey' is gone without a trace or explanation. And of course, right after Baltar's talk with God.

This episode plays beautifully with the idea that faith and proof aren't opposites. They are two sides of the same coin really. Baltar, who always insists on logic, is being tormented by the unfathomable And the more he tries to deny it, the deeper he goes.

I walked away from this one with more questions than answers, but somehow that feels right lol

Battlestar Galactica | S1 E7: Six Degrees of Separation | Full Reaction

During my student years, I learned in my Logic class that everyone on Earth can be traced to you through six degrees of separation (the aunt of your college friend's overseas niece's boyfriend, etc.). But the degrees-of-separation part is still a mystery to me. Might it simply be an artistic choice — just to have 'six' in the title? Or is it a reference to the idea that the Cylons are only six degrees of separation away from every human being? We know humans created the Cylons. We're all only a few steps away from their creators.

I do think this episode relates to Litmus in that the Cylons are aware of Baltar working on a project. Where physical sabotage failed (the suicide bombing), they tried political sabotage in framing Baltar. The goal either way to shut down the project. But either through his own mad genius, divine intervention or just pure dumb luck, Baltar survives 😂 As for the theology of the show, it's interesting how conversion of faith comes out of a place of desperation and imminent demise. Yet Six has said to Baltar that god is love. You'd think conversion then would come from a place of pure enlightenment and contentment.

Will Star Wars episode 2 drop today?

Either Six is able to take physical form and appear as a real Shelley Godfrey that everyone can see and interact with, or Miss Godfrey IS real but is a separate Cylon version of the same model, who happened to already be in the fleet somewhere. And the idea of God in this episode is intriguing… Baltar prays and asks forgiveness, and immediately his version of head-Six reappears. Does this make her somehow an agent or ally of God? If so, does this make Shelley Godfrey an enemy or adversary of God? So many questions!

Obviously the show is not afraid to have religious themes. It appears you are willing to explore that side of the story without being turned off by it. I've seen other reactors who seem a little offended by the religious aspects of the story, which I never understood. Science fiction explores many wonders of the universe we don't understand. Why is it so out of bounds to include religious themes?

Gaius is so unhinged and insane that I just can't not love his character LOL. Really enjoyed getting to see even more of what's going on in that crazy mind of his haha. Gaeta is another character who I'm really starting to like a lot as we see him appear more Sooooo many questions! For me, watching the episodes for myself, I'm about a full season ahead of you now. And it's been really cool coming back to these earlier episodes with you, and noticing things that I might have overlooked originally. Enriching my experience of watching the episodes where I'm at in Season 2 right now. Really been enjoying this series!
