I was very pleasantly surprised with this one! Going into it knowing the vibes may be different, the director is different, and it was TEN years after the epic-ness of Episode III, I was a bit hesitant. But I ended up falling in love with it for so many new and old reasons.
What stood out to me the most was how the dynamic between the light and dark felt reversed in a really compelling way! For once, it felt like the light side was pulling at the dark and maybe even blinding the dark side a bit. That tension and mystery was sooo awesome to see unfold.
But the real heart of this film for me was definitely Rey. I loved her from the moment she appeared. There was a quiet and humble strength in her that immediately drew me in. Her resilience, kindness, and ache for belonging felt so relatable. She isn't just skilled or powerful, she is curious and empathetic. The way she navigates the Force, using her intuition and letting it really flow through her was incredible to see.
Of course, the callbacks to previous films hit me hard. Seeing Han, Leia, and Luke's legacy woven into this story felt like coming home again. And these moments honestly didn't feel like just fan service. They felt earned and grounded in the story and world I've been living/breathing the past few weeks.
This movie felt like passing the torch and I loved it for that. It honored what came before while still reaching for something new and exciting! See you in the next film as we continue this epic journey!
