This beautiful anime felt like unlocking a hidden layer of the entire Matrix trilogy. It didn't just expand the universe but also reframed it. Each short episode was so beautiful in the way that it had its own tone and texture. And they deepened my understanding of what the Matrix really is, how it all started, and what it means to resist it.

I loved how human this felt despite being filled with machines, plugs, and digital ASMR. Each story made me reflect on those themes that I picked up on from the trilogy. Freedom, choice, reality, and suffering.

And I loved seeing more ordinary people brush up against the Matrix. Go searching for it. Happen upon it. It made the whole world feel that much bigger and fragile and real.

I am very new to Anime, but this is honestly a really awesome first exposure to it (besides Death Note which I watched awhile ago!). The different animation styles setting the tone for each short episode felt like watching art unfold in every scene. It was an awesome experience and left me craving more aesthetically pleasing styles!

Yesss I felt the same way watching this one! New, exciting and interesting but still had that Matrix vibe and feel which was very well done! Plus all the art was so aesthetically pleasing 🧡 I'm glad you enjoyed it and finally got to watch this for the first time!! And yes! The Kid Story and the Origin stories were probably my favorites also for the same exact reasons. I love that they used the actual "You saved me" audio! Also saaaame about playing Detroit/ME before watching this because the parallels are definitely there and I think help me see the androids and feel a bit 'sorry' for them even though I know what they end up doing to the human race.. It was all inevitable when you look back at it with that lens!

So I'm gonna out myself here lol, despite how much you know I love the Matrix films, I still had never gotten around to watching Animatrix until now! Really really enjoyed the experience! I love how each one took the lore and put its own spin on it. Different storytelling and art styles, but still maintaining that 'Matrix' vibe. Getting lost in this world again was exactly what I needed after an insane Friday of work LOL I think The Kid story has to be my favorite. Just because I remember him from the second and third film so seeing where his connection with Neo started was super cool! And just hearing Neo's voice at the end is awesome haha. Also loved the first two origin stories. Major mass effect and Detroit vibes for sure. And I'm kinda glad I did end up watching this for the first time after already playing those games, because I'm able to see the machines with a very different perspective

all right I was able to watch along c: (thanks again!) it was quite enjoyable! Some parts are so trippy T.T But I LOVE that the reins were given to multiple creators and teams for each shorts. And having seen matrix revolution I think there's a few lore keys and concepts that are given in animatrix that allow to enjoy it more.. Personally I remember enjoying it, but I know the original trilogy's yet another of those sacred idol that a lot of people will hate to be meddled with.. this being said, the animation style of some of those shorts reminded me of rotoscopy (I think that's the name) and since you're talking about getting into anime it feels like a very relevent time to advise one of my favourite movies c': "A Scanner Darkly", in which, incidently, Keanu reeves (along with a few other known faces 👀) stars.. it's a very cool science fiction thriller that's made after a book by phillip K dick. if you ever did it some day I'd be extatic not gonna lie. ✨manifesting✨ (I might copy this last part in the "watch suggestion" on discord, sorry for the repeat but I just gave myself the smallest hope and I have to try to have it happen 🥹) thanks for the watch c:
