This one was so different than all the other ones before it. Some in good ways, some in bad. I genuinely enjoyed it even though I found myself frustrated and caught off guard by choices that challenged what I thought Star Wars was supposed to be.
I think one of the most powerful things this film did was shift the way we understand the Force. The Force no longer belongs to bloodlines, to chosen ones, to legends. It's no longer just the domain of Skywalkers or ancient orders. The Force can now awaken to anyone, even a stable boy staring at the stars. Even a girl that got sold for money by her deadbeat parents. And I love that. It made the galaxy expand even farther. It added hope where most of it felt lost. It felt like the story reached out to its fans and said, you matter too. Even if you come from nowhere. Even if you're not perfect. And THAT was revolutionary.
At the heart of it all this movie is telling us that the future is worth fighting for, but we can't keep doing what we've been doing. We have to let go of the myths that no longer serve us. Release our ego, pride and outdated roles and take the plunge to something more grounded, more human. We don't need to burn it all down out of rage (cough KYLO cough), but we do need to shed our illusions, admit when we're wrong, and move forward with our mistakes as our guide. That kind of hope, the kind built on learning and not just legacy, is incredibly powerful.
So yeah, I definitely felt frustrated at times with this one. For your health, don't drink every time I say frustrating lol. But the more I sit with this story, the more I accept it for what it is. The more I realize that discomfort was actually the whole point. The more I respect it for giving me something I didn't know I needed from this franchise: Permission to let go and stop waiting for the perfect heroes, the perfect answers, the perfect version. You can fail and still matter. You can come from nowhere and still be powerful.
You don't have to be what came before. You can be something new.
