Jurassic World: Rebirth | Summertime Vibes Film | Full Reaction

I'm not gonna lie, the entire Jurassic series has been such an awesome, fun, wild and utterly forgettable journey this summer. From the OG Jurassic Park to now, each film brought its own flavor of chaos, thrills, and moments that made me laugh, gasp, and just revel in the joy of dinosaurs running amok.

This one stayed true to all of those vibes. The adventure, the thrill, the chaos... It's everything I have loved about this series. And even though people had mixed signals here (like pretty much every Jurassic film after the original hehe), I saw this one for what it was. Another true reminder of Dr. Chaos's warning at the very start of it all.

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Thank you so much to everyone who joined me this summer for our Summertime Vibes Jurassic Park series! I have loved every film in its own way, and I can't wait to do a proper ranking on Instagram later next week.

And for those of you who want to watch this one, without that insane rental price,
here's the link to my folder with the movie: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X4KlqGepei0bt1aBfkJos8JtQm-7yjnF/view?usp=sharing

Thank you so much Kali for giving us that link, I just finished watching and yeah it's more of the same as you said - I guess at this point we realize the originality is long gone and they're kind of just guilty pleasures. They're still doing a great job with the effects and trying to bring in good actors, so sure why not - I'm always a sucker for a good action adventure. I think the Alien-like head was intentional, it's one of the most scary and disturbing images in movies and they were trying for that vibe I think. It's a look that goes beyond "animal" territory into dark, twisted, evilness. Happy you were able to find enjoyment with this franchise, a perfect idea for summer vibes.

Before I comment on this film, I have to say something about your reaction, Kali. At the beginning, you kept trying to justify why you enjoyed this franchise. There are two problems with that. First, you're the creator, so you get to watch whatever you want! Second... dinosaurs are just freakin' cool! It's as simple as that! 😁 To the topic at hand, I pretty much agree with your assessment. I thought the film was fun, but I can see why many critics panned it: too many characters, too many plot holes, and extremely uneven writing. After initially meeting the recovery team, I felt that I had a decent handle on what the major plot points would be. Suddenly, we were randomly introduced to a completely separate group of characters on the sailboat, which immediately pulled me out of the story. And I never did figure out where the writers were trying to go with the boyfriend, Xavier. He seemed like an irresponsible, disrespectful jerk... who suddenly risked his life by jumping into dinosaur-infested waters to save his girlfriend! Okay, I guess I can believe that turn of events, but it didn't quite ring true to the character they had established. He continued to flip-flop between unpleasant and admirable for the rest of the story. Perhaps they intended for him to be the "plucky comic relief," but to me he just came across as an obnoxious twit. The mutant hybrids were pretty disgusting! Kali, you were't the only one who immediately thought of Alien when we first saw the D-Rex. I immediately thought they should have called it the X-Rex... for xenomorph! When it returned later in the film, it also reminded me a bit of the Rancor, the huge beast that lives under Jabba the Hutt's throne room in Return of the Jedi. Afterwards, I read that director Gareth Edwards revealed there were several inspirations behind the creature design, including... the Rancor and the Alien! As always, I loved the homages to the OG films. When Teresa disturbed the sleeping T-Rex while trying to retrieve the boat, she immediately grabbed a flashlight! When the Quetzalcoatlus attacked Zora and Dr. Loomis after finding them in her nest, all I could hear was Dr. Malcolm's voice: "Mommy's very angry!" There was even a sign reading "Docks ⇒". Random notes: * Altoids tins always remind me of Dr. Hank Pym. * After the Mosasaur's blood is retrieved, the following conversation ensues: Dr. Loomis (aka "Science Guy"): "Nice shot!" Zora (ScarJo): "Nice rocket!" Kali: Wow, Kali, clean it up! 🤣 * I hated the scene of the Mosasaur trying to scrape the boat against the shoreline. First, the land presumably slopes *outwards* underneath the water, meaning that the Mosasaur itself would be running into the ground. Second, how would an animal know to do that anyway?!? * OTOH, at least the boat didn't explode when it ran aground. That's such a ridiculous Hollywood cliche in most cases! * Kali, upon seeing the immense herd of Titanosaurs: "There's so many! Did they use rabbit DNA?" 🤣 * Seeing a T-Rex swim was very cool! * OTOH, I wasn't the least bit afraid that the T-Rex would eat Bella. This is Jurassic Park, for goodness sake! They're not gonna let a T-Rex eat a six-year old! * So, we're just supposed to accept a nearly inaccessible "ancient temple" on this random island without explanation? Cue the Church Lady: "How convenient!" 😔 * I like the red & blue compies! * Good line from Teresa: "I'm not hysterical... I'm homicidal!" At the very end, I have to admit that one of my final thoughts was how lame Dr. Loomis turned out to be. After all that they'd been through, and after all the signs she'd been sending, why in the world didn't he kiss ScarJo?!? Loser!
