But I don't think I was fully prepared for this level of absurd brilliance 😅🤣 The moment those opening credits started dropping random Swedish subtitles about a moose (???), I knew logic had officially left the building and I would have to fully surrender to the realm of chaos.
You all know me and my Bible lol. So the "Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch" scene just about took me out. I've definitely read Numbers, but never quite like that. Three shalt count, no more, no less. Two is right out. It's the theology lesson I didn't know I needed 😅
I think what cracked me up the most was how the movie constantly undercut its own epicness, like a real medieval manuscript somehow got snatched up and doodled on by a stand-up comedian and just sent to filming that way LOL. By the end I was laughing, quoting, and even caught myself saying "it's just a flesh wound!" when people were only nearly dead

Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, History of the World Part 1, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are my favorites. If you like dark comedies, consider "Dr. Strangelove" starring Peter Sellers (playing three characters), Slim Pickens (also in Blazing Saddles) and a young James Earl Jones. Also "Being There" starring Peter Sellers. Those are some great comedies.

2025-10-10 17:09:49 +0000 UTCThe Monty Python team are/were incredibly well educated Cambridge and Oxford university grads. They formed as a comedy troupe at the height of British Conservatism. And our TV at the time reflected that (all three channels of it !) which was the pool the Pythons happily spent their days mocking. The BBC was an institution of British Conservative broadcasting. It was all very proper. There was some absurdist comedy... The Goon Show with the legend that is Spike Milligan (who gets a few lines in Life of Brian), and Dud & Pete (Dudley Moore and Peter Cook). But nobody was ready for the Pythons. Their first series wandered across different time slots. The beeb had no idea where to place them as there were both extremely violent moments (yet silly), and watching as a kid we always knew there was a chance we'd see some boobs ! This led to the TV audience being largely university kids and trendy young hipsters, although the live audience was largely middle aged (whom had NO IDEA what they were watching). Sketches like The Dead Parrot sketch, The Lumberjack song, The Upper Class Twit of the Year, How to spot different types of tree, The dirty fork... all became instant classics. My friend and I as kids had the first six episodes on VHS which we watched every week until we could quote every line verbatim. FIONA LEWIS: (taking bible) I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so anyway, I said to her, I said, they can't afford that on what he earns, I mean for a start the feathers get up your nose, I ask you, four and six a pound, and him with a wooden leg, I don't know how she puts up with it after all the trouble she's had with her you-know-what, anyway it was a white wedding much to everyone's surprise, of course they bought everything on the hire purchase, I think they ought to send them back where they came from, I mean you've got to be cruel to be kind so Mrs. Harris said, so she said, she said, she said, the dead crab she said, she said. Well, her sister's gone to Rhodesia what with her womb and all, and her youngest, her youngest as thin as a filing cabinet, and the goldfish, the goldfish they've got whooping cough they keep spitting water all over their Bratbys, well, they do don't they, I mean you can't, can you, I mean they're not even married or anything, they're not even divorced, and he's in the KGB if you ask me, he says he's a tree surgeon but I don't like the sound of his liver, all that squeaking and banging every night till the small hours, his mother's been much better since she had her head off, yes she has, I said, don't you talk to me about bladders, I said... DON'T YOU TALK TO ME ABOUT BLADDERS !!!... I mean I've seen that sketch (Courtroom sketch) a hundred times and that still made me laugh reading it. And that is the power of the Python's comedy. It is both insanely stupid, yet brilliantly clever all at once. "I'm thinking of going for a walk !" "You're not fooling anyone you know..."
