Yes that's right it happened, although there was an aha moment and click, to give myself some credit, I had been crafting themes for a few weeks. HOWEVER, I'm not totally in the clear, I need a funny and interesting script, I need to finish my costume, I need to make a miniature moth sculpture....I might also have to learn a new language to sing a folk song in farsi...we'll see!
Here was my brain explosion: Some species of moths don't have mouth parts, this means they only have 1-2 weeks to live after they leave the cocoon. These two weeks are filled with mating and laying eggs before they die. The end. That's what inspired me! I want to make an amateur scientist character who operates on a moth girl to give her mouth and stomach parts so she can live forever (very Frankenstein or Golem) but she hates what they've done to her. I can't tell you more because my brain is still collecting the pieces from the explosion.

2022-05-05 16:59:01 +0000 UTCYes lol it was sort of like a play on words with genre i think is how i came up with it. Body horror is in the "horror" genre, but tragedy is a much different vibe than horror thus the portmanteau.

Just looked up the greek pantheon myth of Echo and its also very tragic and body horror. "Body tragedy" is a great term wow. Did you just come up with that? I never heard of it before but it's a great description. "Body drama" - dramatic changes to the body. Sounds less coded as a bad or good which has its own potential. I do want speaking and eating do be kind of a horrific thing she has to endure while all she wants is just to lay eggs.

I love what you're doing with the scientist idea too, it gives me visions of the little mermaid, gaining that supposed boon that comes with an awful price. Or maybe even it's making me think of the greek pantheon myth of Echo, how she can't say anything that isn't repeated. Maybe it's just the ties between mouths and speaking, but I think that's what your ideas are sparking in my own head. Body horror isn't even the right term for it, it's more like "body tragedy". Maybe "body drama"?
