Do you think my illustrations are bad lately? What should I change?

I’ve received some comments and thought maybe my artstyle changed. Do they have worse composition or too bright colours? Or maybe expressions look weak or the themes are not creative?

I’ll appreciate your criticism. I’ll just create a list of what should I improve and change. If you can provide examples with my older works, it would be good too

I’m not sure, I’m trying all the time to do better. It’s just that I hoped that my constant tiredness wouldn’t affect my art. I hope it’ll go away, I’m doing anything I can to still draw good! I just wish I didn’t feel so tired all the time though…

Ah, thank you for those words! I will keep in mind everything you said about perspective and I'll try to experiment more with angles!

Qiandai以宇

Thank you so much for your words! I do have recordings of my drawings and I've been thinking about doing small short videos on Instagram and Youtube and maybe releasing full videos here!

Hello! Just my personal input, so take it how you will. To answer your first 2 questions in the subject line, I don't think your illustrations are bad lately. You should change whatever you feel like changing. Overall, I see growth. I'm not an artist, so just take what I say with a bucket of salt. Colors and themes seem fine from my perspective. I've read some other comments and agree that there could be things you can try out more like backgrounds, poses, and perspectives. While I can agree with it, if you don't want to do it, or if you want to focus on something else, then go for it. Similar idea to a previous post where you stated you wanted to draw NSFW more often than SFW. There are limitless ways you can branch and improve on, but you have a limited time, so focus on what you want. Like, you can draw more clothes(or none), adjust different poses, backgrounds, and etc. I didn't go through all your previous works, but if you really need a few suggestions to improve on, maybe posture or camera angle. I didn't look through all your previous works. I only skimmed through the ones I can see on Patreon. I don't see a lot of pictures of the back. You can experiment with other poses too, like the "Jacko" pose. I recall seeing one picture of the back, but I figured you didn't like to draw that position, so there are less pictures of that. Up to you in the end. With "camera angle", I mean more of the view from our perspective. The first major perspective shift I saw that stood out for me was the cowboy Acheron where we're looking up at Acheron. Yes, there were shifts from left to right on other works like Fei Xiao, but it seems slight and more leveled and straight on. Other perspectives where we look down from above would be interesting to see. Or maybe if we already are looking from above, the idea can be more obvious to viewers like me. Only if you want to try it out. I apologize for my long paragraphs. I hope you take it easy a bit and don't stress out too much. Take care of yourself. Your art journey still has a long way to go, and I hope to continue to see your growth.

In my opinion, Qiandai’s art is consistent in terms of quality and impact. Some pieces are more clean than others but I understand that as an artist is hard and time consuming to deliver the same care on all art. I think Qiandai’s strength is also character expressions, so it might be a good idea to experiment more with them! Ellen’s expression on the recent art is so good! I think color palette is great too but might benefit from expanding it. French Miku is a good example of a bigger palette, I loved how the colours worked together. I also want to learn more about Qiandai’s work process! Seeing the sketch and phases helps a lot but would love to see it in timelapse or maybe streaming 👀 I can’t wait to see Qiandai’s growth ❤️

Omni, Nature’s Smore

I only see improvement personally, I love your art

Mahir Ullah

I’ll try to do so! It’s a bit challenging and takes more time, but I’ll try

Qiandai以宇

Ah, thank you so much for noticing the backgrounds! I’m trying to keep it more interesting, even if it’s mostly skies or water or some furniture…

Qiandai以宇

I love your work. but I also think it would be interesting to work a little more on the background. which would allow you to play a little more with the lights. Mind you, this is not a criticism. I'm just stating an idea. I don't have your talent at all.

Sebby Kwak

I noticed an incredible quality increase in your background work. The last jane doe piece was just so peak. I don't think its going for the worse, the quite opposite. I enjoy your artstyle a lot. Some people won't like your artstyle, your attitude, you personally etc. I feel like you dwell on the vocal minority far too much. Being ok to critique is one thing, but focusing on negativity is another. Stay safe 🍷

It is quite difficult to express this through text. An artwork that depicts a woman in lingerie would be classified more as nsfw. A character in a swimsuit. i would classify it more as sfw. But it depends a lot on each person's morals or culture. Of course, nudity is an element that changes the classification of an artwork. But it's not that simple. It also depends on the pose of the character, and his gaze. The subject is complex but very interesting.

Thank you, I’m still trying to see what I can improve even if I’m satisfied with the works myself. I always feel though if something’s missing

Qiandai以宇

Yes, I’ve been working on that with perspective and foreshortening! I’ll see what I can do

Qiandai以宇

Hmm, I’ll think about it! I’ll have to analyse my works more thoroughly

Qiandai以宇

Ahah, can you give an example of sfw vs nsfw of my works? I do prefer them myself, but it’s hard to differentiate them when my mood changes

Qiandai以宇

I think you should trust yourself and draw what feels right to you. From my perspective your art still looks great! If you want to make changes to your style it should only be because you want to and feel like it, not because of any external pressure.

Lancelot

I love it

lyxcele

You have a very stylized art and it will certainly not be to everyone's liking. Because of that it will certainly be much harder for you to discern true positive criticism from people that just want to change your style. In my opinion what you create is beautiful to look at and, if the dimensions are good, often found as my phone or desktop wallpaper. Improving your technique is always satisfying for us and probably for you too. I for one appreciate what you create now as it's unique and beautiful and I'm all here for the journey of your art's evolution.

MeguMagi

I don't think your art has gotten worse. But I think you could draw more creative poses, concepts or angles.

Victor Lin

I think it is better.

trickymindful

The shadow line is more rough now, it goes almost straight to it, while before it seems more blended

Waffler

But Personally, I prefer when you make sensual and elegant artworks rather than when you make explicit artworks. I can't put the latter as my phone's wallpaper... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Sebby Kwak

Hm, maybe more experiment with colours or lights then!

Qiandai以宇

Ah, I see. I suppose I didn’t notice it, but I’ve been trying to improve my more detailed rendering. Maybe that’s why. Do you mean the colour being harsher or the meeting of shadow and light being rough?

Qiandai以宇

I suppose they’re more elegant, since I was mostly concentrated on creating a dress design. I remember hating that work though…

Qiandai以宇

Ah, thank you. I’ll try keeping it in mind!

Qiandai以宇

Maybe… Lately it’s really hard to keep drawing for a long time and I take too long, too many breaks. It didn’t happen before. Although, in April there were only 5 works max and I don’t think they’re that good ;-;

Qiandai以宇

I don't think it got worse

MeesterYellow

I've only been around since Jan of this year but, I'd actually say you've improved overall this year specially with trying new poses and the framing of your arts and backgrounds. The Acheron Cowboy, Topaz puppy dog eyes with Jade, and Mori Calliope all come to mind when thinking improvement and trying new things out. I'd say if anything if there's a new pose or framing or shading you want to try to really just take your time and finish it out instead of feeling like you just have to put out something. Overall I'd say you've improved in the short time I've been around so, great work!

Ryhan Imam

In a way, it feels like you went from the previous way of illustrating to a more "watercolor" kind of rendering I guess(?)

Waffler

I wouldn't say they look worse but it kinda feels like the way you render the colours lately is a little harsher than before, shadows in particular Comparing the latest Ellen pic with Firefly or Jingliu from back in february for example where shadows seem quite a bit softer of a transition

Waffler

I love your art works with shenhe, the one with the water lily in the hair slightly in profile and in the white Chinese dress. And the one with the black Chinese dress. They are very sensual.

Sebby Kwak

I am not an artist but I love your rendering a lot! Your concepts are very very tasteful and their expressions are one of the best around! It might be hard for us to pinpoint what could use an improvement, so this mostly has to come from within and your own journey with your art. Two main reasons why you are feeling more tired with art lately is something a lot of creators have for themselves. Burnout and lack of creative spark. Allow yourself to rest a bit more and explore something different for how your do your routine. If your process is tiring you out, tweak things around and try something different to breathe life and spark to your works! Also last but not least, always remember to take care of your mental health, as it is your most important resource as a creator. Give yourself time to self take and ground yourself. (treat yourself something nice, start mediating and give yourself time to breathe) So that you can reduce the noises of daily life that would effect the current you! I hope this helps you a bit and.. does not confuse you >< I'm a creator myself so I uds your pain a lot! All the best sweetie!

ItsYuiDayo

I think that your art looks amazing, I don’t really realize much of a change at all. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, you’re trying your best and as long as you like the art you’re making that’s all that matters. :) don’t be too hard on yourself, just try to relax and enjoy the process, you’re doing amazing! <3

Trevyn Tuft

I think maybe around April of this year, when Arlecchino was released. It's just an opinion ofc, but I find when I take a little more time in between songs I'm working on, they end up sounding a little better. Maybe that can help you too?

Rin

Your art is perfect, especially with Yelan ❤️

Ivan

Ah, I’ll consider. Which of my older works did you think were more creative?

Qiandai以宇

I think your style and creativity may be taking a small hit from the frequency of your output. Maybe try scaling back how many works you put out for a little bit?
