How to Fix Your Attention Sp- ft. Rebecca Jennings

Rebecca returns to the show to talk about her recent attempts to reclaim her attention from screens and notifications, and whether it’s truly possible to build an attention span at all.

We discuss the developing literature and research around attention, and what is meant when we talk about focus, delve into the great debate on declining literacy rates & whether we are heading toward a ‘post-literate’ society, and whether the small, but growing number of people trying to better manage their time online might be an effective starting point to challenge the algorithms.

In defence of Bryan Johnson, one of the best English modernist writers was called Bryan Stanley Johnson, although he contracted it to B. S. Johnson. Probably seemed like a good idea in the 1960s due to the Bryan Johnson Problem, but now I tell people about him and they think I'm talking about Boris

Great episode. I feel similarly to Phoebe in that I feel pretty rough after I've killed a bunch of time on social media. One thing that's helped me massively is completely deleting any social media from my phone, logging out on my phone browser and deleting saved passwords. I still have a thousand ways to waste my time but the added friction there has stopped me using social media on my phone entirely.
