RJ Rambles about Musicals

Hey everybody! 

Gonna try to keep the ramblings short today. Last week, I talked a bit about how I had been a little disappointed with Update 16's reception. I'm over it. The general reception has been really good. I'm letting the assholes get to me, and I'm done with that. I took this last weekend off and got myself focused once again. I got a little down for a little while, but now I'm up again and those guys are still so far beneath me I can't even see them anymore. 

Anyways, in that last ramblings I was talking about movies, Troy B made a comment recommending the musical Twisted: The Tale of a Royal Vizier. I ended up really enjoying that and it sent me down a musical rabbit hole, where I am firmly stuck right now. 

I've always liked musicals, but the place I live in Texas, we really don't have access to many. Plus, they're very expensive to see in person. But I have seen a couple of live musicals in my life. My partner and I went to see The Wizard of Oz last year when we made our little trip to Arkansas. And I know I saw Oklahoma! when I was young. Mostly, I've watched movie versions of musicals though. 

Anyways, after Twisted, I wanted more musicals. So I rewatched La La Land first, which is one of my favorite movies. We watched another musical by the Starkid group (who made Twisted), called "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" and it was really fun. 

Then I stumbled across Hadestown. And holy crap. Hadestown completely blew me away. I was working and just wanted to watch a little of the beginning and it just immediately sucked me in and didn't let go. It's probably one of my favorite things I've seen (including movies, games, whatever) in years. I ended up watching it over again immediately. Then again a couple days later. It's amazing. I can't see anything topping it for me for a long time. I really wish that I could see it in person. Maybe next year, I'll make a little trip to New York or something. 

So, after that, my wife and I went to go see Waitress: The Musical, which was showing at the movie theaters. I loved that one too. It was so much fun and it's the kind of story that I like to write. Made me think of a few characters in my game. The music is fantastic too. 

Last night, we watched Into the Woods. We watched the movie version with Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt. It was good, but I was a little disappointed by it. I think that I would like the stage performance much more than this movie version. So I think I'll watch that soon. 

Other than being obsessed with musicals right now, we also watched The Boy and the Heron, which I thought was okay, but not great. I was a little bored in the theater for this one. I've also started playing Cyberpunk 2077 again. I never finished it my first time through, and I've had to start over now, because I forgot everything.
