"Jolly Sailor Bold" mp3
Added 2020-07-10 19:00:00 +0000 UTCTa daaaa, the final song track for my upcoming mermaid song, a cover of "Jolly Sailor Bold"! This song was popularized by Pirates of the Caribbean nine zillion: Stranger Tides, but is actually a real 19th century folk song. I decided to sift through the original lyrics and then rearrange them into my own variation, a spooky and tragic tale of a woman whose sailor lover died at sea.
I have a whole story in my brain for how this relates to mermaids: That she drowned herself and her soul transformed into a mermaid, who now sings about her perpetual grief, ironically luring other sailors to their own deaths with her cries. I don't know how much of that, if any, will translate to the music video, but NOW YOU KNOW!
