Music video filming is underway!

This weekend, we got the first of three music video sets filmed! I'm super pumped to be working with Nate of SHIELDS Productions again (the cinematographer who did Jester's Mom!) I don't usually get to invest in a professional cinematographer, but I really wanted this video to be the best it could be, and looking at the footage so far... it's exceeding my expectations!

For this set, we hung up a black backdrop in my garage and then suspended a fishing net from the rafters. The net itself is reclaimed fishing net from the 80s (they start off as 1500-foot-long nylon nets that weigh up to 4000lbs at full size!) My dad helped with this part — we used climbing rope, 4x4 beams for support, and a tow hitch to make sure it was extra strong. In fact, my dad tested the net by sitting in it and bouncing around before they slung me into it, and he's nearly twice my weight! So I was in no danger of falling (but just in case, we had a thick pad underneath me.)

Nate did something really cool with the lighting that I had never heard of before: He put up a green backlight, lit me with a very warm-toned key light, and then set his white balance to that warm tone. (So, basically, he told the camera that the yellow light was actually white.) This is why, in the final shot, everything looks very blue, even though in the behind-the-scenes images, it's much warmer and greener.)

I also made a new mermaid top because I was very dissatisfied with the first one I made for Undertow, and the matching bikini top from FinFolk wasn't exactly "realistic." This one follows the same process as my original seaweed top (detailed in this video) but I used purple and black leaves instead of green, and embellished with spiky accents instead of net and pearls. I'm really happy with how it came out — thank god, because there's no way I was gonna make a THIRD one, haha!

We have two more scenes to film for this video, and both will be next weekend! I'm... nearly ready for them. And then I'll have only a few days to edit together the finished video in order to release it that week. Wish me luck!
