Okay, this is the most egregious abuse of the phrase "early access" that I've made in... probably like 2 years, so I just want to give y'all some insight!
This week's video (going up in about an hour) is about mistakes that DMs make while worldbuilding. This is one of those videos that spiraled out of control and just got longer and longer as I worked on it, and last night at 6pm when we were headed out to play D&D, I was still only halfway through the edit. (It doesn't help that, like MANY of the last few weeks, I filmed this video on Monday, which means my editing time was really cramped.)
I was thinking about how behind the ball I've been lately, how I've been putting up video previews for Patrons LATE the night before release, and how stressful it's been to finish up videos right before the deadline... and then I thought about the upcoming week, and how I won't be able to work on Thursday or Friday due to family Thanksgiving stuff, and I haven't even started to script next week's video, so I was staring down yet another week of being two steps behind everything.
Then I realized that the "halfway done" video edit was twelve minutes long. Which is a pretty standard full length video for me these days! So I decided to make the call to split the video into two parts so that I could both ensure that I'd make this week's deadline, and get ahead of next week's video. I replicated my hair and makeup, changed clothes, and filmed some pick-up shots to make it work as a two-parter (props to anyone who can spot the two clips in this video that were filmed on a separate day, haha!)
This is a bit of an experiment. I don't know if I've ever done a two-part video like this, even though I know it's not an uncommon thing in the YouTube world! So I guess we'll see how it goes. But if it works out and does well, this could honestly be HUGE for me in terms of getting on top of future videos.
ANYWAY! Sorry for the novel, I just know every week I'm like "oh god this is so late, I'm the worst, sorry!" and then I continue to just be really late every week, so I want to let you in on the process and on why it's been so difficult lately to get these videos up with a few days worth of early access.
Hope y'all have a happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it, and even if you don't, I hope you get to eat some really good food this week! You don't need a holiday to do that.
