Payment Processing Issues

Hey friends — Patreon made some changes to their payment processing and unfortunately that means a bunch of folks have had payments declined. (There is a very scary, steep cliff in my earnings graph right now... 😳 yikes!)

If you're one of those Patrons, here is what Patreon advises:

  1. Contact your card issuer to confirm the charge is valid and retry that card
  2. If the retry does not work, try a different payment method. You can edit your payments in your Settings, under Billing History (pictured above).

I know this is super frustrating, so I really appreciate those of you who take a moment to get your information corrected. In my ideal world, supporting me would be as easy as possible — I hate when supporting me becomes an inconvenience to you guys.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions, and if I can't answer them, I will find someone who can!

Payment Processing Issues

Comments

I've been seeing the news around this, and checked my bank immediately. I hope it's been/being resolved quickly.

Robert Thomson

On that annual membership, so this will not be an issue for me (at least until April, next year.)

Dylan Craven

You are so sweet, thank you so much!! ❤️

Ginny Di

I saw this message and support you. I checked that my card works, but I had to change my pledge. It was on my old automatic amount so I doubled it. Hope that helps.

DANINE DOLPHIN

Aw geez, thank you Greg!! You are the sweetest!

Ginny Di

Oh my gosh, thank you so much, Nathaniel — that is so kind!!

Ginny Di

I have no idea what the specifics are, to be honest, I'm just going off of what Patreon has said, which is that they made changes to their payment processors and there have been an unusually high number of declines as a result.

Ginny Di

Same as Nathanial.

Greg Stockton

I have been wanting to support you, so when I saw this message, I decided to move up from being a free member to help move that sharp drop to start moving back up just a tiny bit anyway, even if all it does is bring a smile to your face. Thank you for all your videos!

Nathanial

Yay for annual memberships!

Stephanie

It looks like it went through okay for me. I can imagine how scary that must have been to see that earnings drop. Hopefully, everything can get resolved soon.

I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope it gets resolved Ginny! I signed up to once a year and the payment went through fine. FYI, I also patron dungeon dudes and they only have a monthly plan, but no issues there (I went for a dungeon dudes tier that is equivalent for me to over $4 Canadian a month, so maybe that is why I had no issues there?) Perhaps it is a monthly low threshold thing? I was once victim of a credit card fraud where multiple very low (below $2 Canadian a month) charges were being made, so perhaps multiple factors are at play?

peter varfalvy

Mine seemed to go through just fine. But yeah, that can really be annoying when that sort of glitch happens.

David Greenlaw

Sorry...

Utah Batman

Oh I just remembered I paid a year at once. 😮‍💨 sorry you are having trouble

Jennifer Lancaster

I saw the charge come through my bank; I'm sorry this is hitting you so sharply! :(

Michael Brost

Yes, this is 100% an issue with Patreon's processors, not with any of your banks or anything!

Ginny Di

Yes, Patreon made a change to their payment processing, so this has affected basically every creator.

Ginny Di

They will likely have it fixed before my next payment is due in January. Having to pay only once a year do make life a bit easier

Bjørn Egil Larsen

I hit it last month with only one of the people I support. It was strange because clearly the card was working... it did eventually go through but not for another week, we're still not sure what the problem was, and the bank said it was probably an issue with the point-of-service settings.

Richard Riley

I saw this from another creator; it seems real widespread.

Michael Brost

THANK YOU for pointing out the billing history section. I've been trying to make sure everything was working right since I'd heard of the problem, and that helps a bunch.
