The Rise of Drekkis [Working Title]

A new campaign! 

This game, still in pre-production, will feature discrete chapters telling the story of what happens after the events of The War for Arcadia [the events of Tombs of Scoria, Akuban Knights, Frozen Frontier, and Desperate Measures]. We know Drekkis becomes a power house, but that's just the big picture. What is happening on the level of individuals? Is this a great benevolence that spreads? Is it a brutal regime? 

The images above are part of the storyboarding for the introduction which moves about the map cataloging the expansion of the Kingdom of Drekkis throughout the War for Arcadia. I've added storyboard scenes 3, 5-7, 16 and the still for the first chapter. Missing from these screens are some text that will explain how we got here so that people new to the world will have the context they need.

Chapter 1 is titled (for now) The Talons and The Deserters, and will focus on a single knight leading a band of warriors who is dispatched to The Talons to deal with, you'll never guess, some Drekkisian deserters who have fled there. It will be a short chapter, 3-5 sessions, with a single player (85% sure on the casting).

Depending on how that chapter goes (the lovely thing about chapter based stories is that PCs can die and it adds to the main story rather than ending it. Oh boy, I can't wait to kill some hubristic PCs) that character may spill over into the 2nd chapter where we add extra PCs, or the 2nd chapter may be all new PCs. 

You might be wondering, "What would other chapters look like?" and while nothing is set in stone right now, fun topics that are on the table include

Some of these bigger topics, like Bravo, might be too much for this small chapter based story method. Or perhaps we'll get involved in them part way through - like some off screen group that was trying to conquer Bravo was killed, and the PCs are the replacement party coming in after Drekkis has a foothold on the land. Or maybe we'll do substories within those bigger ones, where our players aren't tasked with conquering the whole island, but specifically on the hunt for person X, or what is happening inside a city that is under siege, or running supply ships back and forth across the sea.

So when is this all going to launch?

I've got an animator in mind to do the intro, but they're OoO for the rest of the week. I need a different artist to do the overlays, but first I need to finish my designs for those. I also need to confirm my chapter 1 player. Ideally this would take 3 weeks, so lets say actually sometime in August.

Once there was talk of only doing one more campaign in Arcadia; I love that Neal's solution (if he stuck to that initial decision) was to just run all campaign ideas in one (except for the one that was in talks 2 years ago: to seal the fate of the Eridonian royalty).
