Hop Water

Since January is often themed "dry January" and hop water is becoming a trendy drink, he is how to make it for pennies a glass. On a side note products like HOPWTR slightly offended me when I see them charging $3+ per can, but they are using less material and time than making beer. With the recipe in this video you can make up to 800 glasses of Hop Water with $5 in hops and $5 of vodka.

Yes, you can add more alcohol. Florals like hops and roots, like gentian, are notorious for absorbing a lot of solvent; it is just their nature. You can also add water to the top of the percolator to push out the alcohol, it tends not to mix, but since hop oils are mostly insoluble in water, alcohol is the safer bet. Also, you can leave the stopcock on the percolator open overnight and you can often collect more that way.

Tried this with some Lemon Drop hops. Did the same as the video with 60g hops to 240ml 66% alcohol in a percolator. All the liquid was soaked up & nothing dripped down to the bottom to be collected. Should I add additional alcohol to the percolator?

Thanks, glad the video has served its purpose! And do post your results. I find the acidity really makes a difference and even a tiny amount of sugar (1 to 4 grams) with the acid creates another drink for those who may find the bitterness too intense. Thanks for supporting the channel.

This is the video that introduced me to your work. You’ve already saved me more $ in this recipe, than the monthly support! I made a batch with citra and mosaic hops(I’m and ipa fan). Came out great! I’m thinking about adding a little bit of citric acid to the mix, to brighten the flavors. I’ve got some sodium citrate sitting around (I use it to melt cheeses for fondue and cheese sauce) so I’m going to do some taste testing. 1 plain hop water, 1 with citric acid, and 1 with citric acid+sodium citrate. Will post the results soon!
