Soda as a Beverage Business

Obviously, many people are interested in making a beverage and turning it into a business. It's probably the number one question I get asked. Getting a product to market is fairly easy, though there are a lot of knowledge gaps that prevent people from going the distance. But do know it is probably easier than you think and the biggest hurdle is marketing and not necessarily product development.

A perfect example of that is Three Cents Soda, launched in Greece approximately 10 years ago and in 2023 was bought by Coca-Cola for a cool 45 million euro. And they did it with less information than is available here today.

Hello Isaac and welcome. Glad you find the information useful. The course has a primary focus on flavour development, and I'm working on some follow-up material/videos about non-alcoholic extracts. They are challenging, though, and it is an industry-wide issue. But there are options. The course will help with flavour development and there is an overview lesson on using salts but tastes (sweet, sour, salt, bitter, etc) could be a whole course on its own. But non-alcoholic extracts gets asked about a lot so I will make it a priority with future videos.

Hello Darcy, I recently became a member of your Patreon community and wanted to express my gratitude for the wealth of content you've produced, particularly in the intricate realm of flavors. As a Small Scale Bottler based in Mangalore, South India, I've found your content immensely helpful in my endeavors. I'm particularly interested in joining your Online Course on Flavor and Beverage Development. Currently, my focus lies in two specific areas: I'm in the process of developing a Lime Flavored Drink infused with Himalayan Pink Salt, with the aim of completely eliminating sugar from the formula. Additionally, I'm working on producing Ginger Extracts without the use of alcohol, aiming for a more natural ginger beverage. (Securing Extra Neutral Alcohol for industrial use in India can be a lengthy process, and some consumers prefer products produced without alcohol.) Any insights or tips you can provide on these subjects would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For example, orange is a base flavour but if you mix in some cinnamon and coriander, maybe a little vanilla you end up with a cola flavour. The primary flavours are just common flavours in nature like lime, vanilla, nutmeg but the creative part is when you start mixing those like paint to come up with your own unique flavours/colours. Those would be things like Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, root beer, etc.

A bit off-topic concern here. You talked about primary flavors. Can we have an example? Or a brief description from which we can extend our research? Thank you.
