I was homeschooled until 11th grade due to my parent’s religious beliefs. I can’t really think of any pros beyond being able to work during the day in high school. Cons included the majority of kids I socialized with being absolute freaks due to their parent’s ideas, loneliness, extremely low self esteem and social anxiety. It was possibly the worst thing for my personality type and I’ve gone though years and years of therapy. I have completed four years of college and above (was encouraged to) and feel semi normal at 30. It was very tough.

Much respect to you Dan, as although you didn't stay in school to graduation yourself, you still see schooling as vital. A lesser person might have said, "Well, it didn't work for me, so BURN IT DOWN!" Public schools can't be a perfect option for everyone but we all benefit when it's a GOOD option. Be wary of those that are actively working to dismantle good options for the many (be it public education, public health etc.) in order to protect the privilege of the few. This is not to denigrate those for whom home schooling is a good option. Those reasonable (and educated) folks don't need to resort to inflammatory language like Kirk Cameron and his ilk. i.e.: public schools are "public enemy number one" or "take back" this, "take back" that. 🤮

The current mindset and agenda in 2022 is devaluing and discrediting those who are highly educated and trained. Epidemiologists, educators, health care workers, pre-secondary teachers, professionals - all these people who have degrees and training in their area of expertise are fighting against the new distrust era. Credentials are called into question or just outright ignored. It's fucking disgusting.

I should also add that in this area it's much more common for homeschoolers to be minority groups. I know in certain areas it's rich white kids. Here it's usually underprivileged minorities.

I know quite a few homeschool kids in the STL area. Most of them were homeschooled because the school district in the city here was not accredited and the education was lacking. They all had social groups and did sleepovers and such, probably more than me. The majority of them went to 4 year universities after. I would say that's the majority of home schooled children I know. I think a lot of it depends on area. Here a lot was because of poverty and they got a better education at home. Other places it's more what you are saying. But, and I can't believe I am saying these words, I agree with Rick. I think the majority of homeschooled kids do end up in college and with strong relationships. I think the group if indoctrination is much smaller but they are louder, and that is why you see it more. Where I disagree with Rick is I believe all organized religion is just indoctrination and that anyone who believes in it is just being fooled.
