i hate tape

this process is so annoying. only 20 tapes to go and probably over a hundred bad takes. at least this is the last of the crap that needs to be digitized. podcast coming up later today. yay.

I guess I really lucked out - I shot a documentary on two of these back in 2017 and they both worked great. The audio was a little dodgy on one, but I was able to clean it up with some plugins.

Still got one of these sitting in a storage space back in CA. Not similar model, but had plenty of fun with it back when I was 17 in 2000. More for home movies than anything. Staying busy as usual. I'm keeping up with all the archives and definitely looking forward to whatever comes along next!!

Oh my dog! A TRV240. πŸ˜… I shot so much material on one of those twenty years ago. But they’re a pain in the derriere these days. The cameras all go bad because of faulty SMD capacitors, and the tapes fail due to sticky-shed syndrome. It sometimes helps to fast-forward and rewind a couple of times if the tape doesn’t play or has drop-outs. I managed to get all my stuff transferred, but some tapes took hours and hours. No fun at all! Cleaning the heads also helps, because some of those old tapes can clog the heads even within a few minutes. Good to see you’re working on stuff! I was beginning to worry. Looking fwd to the podcast and everything. πŸ˜„πŸ‘

Shit, if I had known that was the camera you needed, I would have mailed you one - I have two or three of them laying around from my last Hi-8 project

I remember transfering VHS to DVD that was a long and painful process can only imagine what you went through

Matt Thomas

I have a group of digi tapes from using his old handycam with night shot a be long time ago. I have never reviewed them either! I need to do the same to my old 8 mm cassettes!

Richard Serra

You finished the pile that was on your coffee table last night? Damn, that is impressive. Post the Pod Cast dammit!!! 🀣

Richard Serra

Tape is soooooo temperamental, digital is better

I hear you 100% on this. I went through a similar process with all our home movies a year or two back and it was so slow and painful. I'm happy to be done with it and it's worth it in the end to get everything digitized. Good luck!

Been missing you Dan! Hope you’re doing well and feeling better!
