THE PODCAST Ep. 249 / Wine and Conversations

We’re all over the place on this episode. Enjoy!

Regarding your comment at 35:30 - lol! The oldest Millennials are approaching 40, and the youngest are almost 30. They most certainly do eat McDonalds - they grew up on happy meals! Gen Z are in their 20s, and they're the ones that are shunning restaurants. Read a whole article about it today, in fact. https://thetakeout.com/why-gen-z-stopped-going-to-restaurants-1849152901

Hey Dan, I finally watched "Night 50" and although it was great, I'm still kinda lost trying to figure it out. Any plans to explain it to dimwits like me? I'm very excited for ADR and Margie and Scott, I'm so glad you have your spark back! Love ya buddy! Carla

Also, Ghost Hunters is 100% shady as fuck. I went to high school with one of the original cast members and he was a total douchebag. The guy is a professional illusionist - I bet that comes in handy while filming.

Jesse Pollack

I’m sorry about your sister, Andrew

Hey Dan! A few things I wanted to mention just because I haven't really seen anyone else bring them up - Regarding crowdfunding, unless you do something like a video intro carefully explaining what you're trying to do and place it at the beginning of each of the three ADR teaser episodes (Season 3.5), I fear that the majority of the viewers who haven't listened to the podcast are going to be confused and won't contribute. I honestly feel like people are going to see three new ADR episodes and go, "Oh, I heard Dan was going to crowdfund a new season of ADR - I guess it went well!" and move on. I think your best bet might be releasing one new ADR episode publicly with a video message at the beginning with you and Rick saying something like, "Do you want to see more like this? Well, be sure to check out our Kickstarter going live on (insert date here) and help us bring a whole new season of ADR to you!" And then maybe drop the other two Season 3.5 episodes on Patreon as incentive for subscribers like us to contribute to the Kickstarter. Also, have you considered Indiegogo over Kickstarter? I've crowdfunded with them four times, and their fees are less than Kickstarter, and they give you the option to keep whatever you raise (minus small fees) even if you don't hit your goal. Lastly and most importantly, be sure to schedule the beginning of filming at least one month after your crowdfunding campaign ends - most crowdfunding sites (if not all) hang onto your funds for a few weeks to verify bank information before depositing them into your bank account, so give yourself enough time to let these funds drop before you hit the road and go into (more) debt again. Also, showing the toad killing is probably a bad move. Aside from upsetting a lot of people, most (if not all) video hosting sites now have very strict animal harm guidelines for their videos, and Margie & Scott will likely be removed (certainly demonetized) if you include that scene. I know - it's not fair, considering they probably give Michael Moore a pass for the rabbit scene in Roger & Me, but corporate bullshit rarely is fair to independent filmmakers like us. And finally, if you don't have Rick dressed as Pogo walking into the Clown Motel and asking for a room, I am going to make a video where I ugly cry Chris Crocker style as I lament this lost opportunity - and no one wants to see that shit. Anyway, best of luck, and if you need any help with navigating crowdfunding whatsoever, reach out to me - I crowdfunded my last two documentaries.

My sister died from colon and rectum cancer when it spread to her lungs and liver even with chemotherapy so hearing hearing about someone that lied about having it makes me kind of mad.

Andrew Marcel Madsen (RaithGyaron)

Please, don't show the torturous death of the toad, the thought of it makes me feel ill.

Marie Adamson

Rick was born to dress up as John Wayne Gacy.

Cemetery Ridge Films

Love you two, you bring so much joy to my day.

Krista

Back in the 1960s and 70s, weren't alligators almost extinct? Society got used to free-wheeling in ponds and lagoons, but now the gators are literally everywhere in the south where there's water.

Gary Maxwell

I loved this episode so much! I was crying laughing at the John Wayne Gayce idea 🤣🤣 can’t wait for ADR episodes and to support the kick starter.
