Last place I alone explored was a massive sugar refinery close by, that has now been completely gutted. Only the outer walls remains. But back then there was plenty of machinery and the operations room was still fairly intact. That place definitely had a vibe to it.

2023-02-20 09:00:04 +0000 UTCBando story time. In 2008, when "bando" and exploration weren't widely known to many people (especially me, I was 15) I explored a bando very similar to the first one. The backdoor to the home was cracked open, and, my sister and best friend and I all decided to go in. The first floor was covered in mail and newspaper almost an inch thick. House was totally decked out in 50's decor and old appliances. We didn’t last long in the house at all — once we made it to the stairwell, we heard heavy footsteps from the second floor above us and someone said, “Is someone down there…?” And we booked it. The voice was feminine and not aggressive, it sounded more concerned about if someone had just trespassed. Crazy adrenalin rush, though. I went past the block not that long ago and couldn't see the house. I don't think it would've been demolished but it must've been so heavily renovated that I couldn't recognize it a decade later.

In a sense, Dan, you're an archaeologist with a camera, and these clips will hopefully outlast the physical remains of these places, much like your Dead Mall Series has. Well done!

The silence? The suffocating feeling of the hills and woods that seem to clothe each little patch of ground in its own cocoon? If somebody's head popped out of one of those rooms, I'd just die.
