Chord Study

Hey! This month we'll take a look at Sting's song "Shape of my heart". This study is not meant to be a cover of the song, rather an entertaining and useful means to explore new chords and/or get a fresh perspective on the song - even if you already know how to play it.

The song originally starts with F#m and has to be played with chord shapes that have no open strings. I purposely transposed the entire song whole tone down so that the majority of chords in the song now have several possibilities to introduce an open string within the chord.

So here we will start the song in Em and try to use one or two opens strings in each of the following chords. This way you will get interesting new sound colors for basic chords such as G, Em, B, Am7, D, C  etc. You will find the chord diagrams in the PDF, along with the music and the TABs.

And, if you still want to play the song in the original key all you have to do is put a capo on the second fret.
