Piel Canela

As announced, here is Piel Canela! This beautiful Latin classic has been covered by many artists, but probably the best known version is by the Trio Los Panchos. I was most inspired by their  version, as well as Tony Mottola's version from his album Love Songs, Mexico S.A, which I highly recommend. Here I wanted to make my own arrangement and harmonious blend.

For this cover I experimented with Lo-Fi sound, and I have in the works an entire series in Lo-Fi style. I already toyed with the sound in two of my previous videos: Pure Imagination and Wii Cannel Music, in case you want to check them out. I really like it because it includes ambient samples, modulation effects, certain pleasing (yes😉) distortions, some nice hip hop drums, and I find that all this together is actually very satisfying. I've always appreciated what these elements add to the finished project, and now I'm delighted that this sound is hugely popular.

Ok, but back to the song: it is played in the key of D major and later it modulates to the key of F# major, which gives some more excitement to the song and grabs the attention. If you take a closer look at the harmony, especially in the intro and verse, you'll see some very nice examples of ii-7 V7 and ii-7 V7 Imaj7 harmonic devices that are mainly responsible for the dominant cheerful mood.

Hope you enjoy and I'll see you soon with more material.
