10 Bonus - May 2021 - Fingerstyle Booster 3
Added 2021-05-21 21:46:50 +0000 UTCHere is another set of fingerstyle exercises to help you develop individual dexterity and independence for the fingers of your right hand.
The exercises are to be played on three strings only, string by string, no chords. These six exercises present all possible combinations of the strings.
For the purpose of this exercise we will name the strings 1, 2 and 3, so that the combinations are:
123
132
213
231
321
312
You will practice the same exercise with two different group of right hand fingers. First, you play it with thumb (p), index finger (i) and middle finger (m). And after mastering that, you play the same exercise with another group of fingers: index (i), middle (m) and ring finger (a).
You will probably notice that you can play much better with the first group of fingers because you use the thumb. And with the other group you might feel awkward and less confident. The magical goal of this exercise is to even out these imbalances and to enable you to play ALL combinations with the same feel. Of course this will require practice but after you master it you will be able to handle all kinds of fingerstyle situations you come across in songs and any other material. This will give you seamless execution of arpeggios and melodic lines as well as better control of phrasing.
The chords I have chosen are Am7, D7 and G - the usual ii-V-I progression. However, feel free to change these and play the exercise with any chords of your choosing.
