12 Bonus - July 2021 - Patterns 2
Added 2021-07-25 09:48:15 +0000 UTCOk, here is the promised second installment on the topic of patterns. As I mentioned previously, I call these patterns "sweet" ones because their sound is so pleasing, and that is because of the approach note added to the pattern. For those not familiar with the term, an approach note is literally the note that approaches the target tone, whether from behind or in front of it on the scale. There are two common approach notes: chromatic tone from below the target tone, or a scale tone from above.
In the patterns A, B, C, and E the chromatic approach note from below is used. In the pattern D we use both approach notes. So in this pattern the order of notes are chromatic note from below, scale tone, scale tone from above and then again the same scale (target) note. This pattern is very useful and you can also sprinkle it through any arpeggios. You can see examples of it in D2, D3, and D4. You will find this pattern in many songs.
The exercises are written again in the key of D major, second position. But you should apply these patterns for every scale you use, in any key, and any position.
