"Groove Is in the Heart" is a vibrant dance track by Deee-Lite, released in 1990. The song blends elements of funk, disco, and house music, creating a memorable groove that remains a favorite on dance floors. Featuring a catchy bassline by Bootsy Collins, the track stands out for its eclectic and funky appeal. With playful lyrics by Lady Miss Kier, a colorful music video, and a distinctive sound, "Groove Is in the Heart" reflects the joyful spirit of the early '90s dance music scene and brings together a unique fusion of genres and rhythm.
I always loved the bass line from "Groove Is in the Heart," so I decided to create a funky fingerstyle cover of the song. Instead of marking the chords in the PDF, I only included markers for the parts and arrangement names. The harmony is straightforward, consistently alternating between Am7 and D7, which form a ii-V7 progression in the key of G major, except for the later part labeled as Riff 2. For the backing drums, I added variations with dance-funky rhythms and mixed in bongos in a few places.
