Tequila

“Tequila” is a 1958 instrumental hit by The Champs, famous for its upbeat groove and the playful shout of the word “Tequila” at key moments in the track. Blending rock and roll with a Latin-inspired saxophone line, the song was originally intended as a B-side but quickly stole the spotlight, climbing to No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Its simple structure and lively rhythm made it a favorite at parties and dances. Decades later, “Tequila” remains a pop culture staple, often featured in films, TV shows, and commercials for its bold, instantly memorable vibe.

This fingerstyle arrangement of “Tequila” is set in the key of E, rather than the original key of F. The shift makes the most of open-string chords, giving the piece a fuller, more resonant sound while also making it easier and more enjoyable to play on guitar. I also playfully messed around with the arrangement while all the main parts of the song are there, some are stirred up a bit with my own flavor to make it more fun and engaging.
