“… and god, my dreams. I don’t know what’s wrong with me - every time I sleep it’s… it’s like a floodgate of shapes, and patterns. Walking through my own day, over and over. Like falling, a sudden jolt in my gut. Falling into my own footsteps, feeling things I know I couldn’t be feeling, seeing shapes. Seeing patterns, reproducible links, such obvious connections. That doesn’t even make any sense, I can’t - I can’t articulate. But when I’m there, it’s second nature. When I’m dreaming, I mean. It all just clicks. And then I wake up. Exhausted, my heart racing. My pulse is so loud in my ears, and my hands just sit in front of me, someone else’s, hot, itchy. The grooves in my fingerprints feel like fine cuts, I scratch and gnaw. My teeth leave hot, red marks on my skin, my nails are too bitten down to leave a scratch. And I still feel it, itching. Like my blood is clawing to get out.”
