Composing with Filters (Part 1) – Pico-8 Music Tutorial #66
Added 2021-03-02 14:12:40 +0000 UTCWith the release of Pico-8 0.2.2, we now have “filters” to play with when composing.
The most interesting of these filters is DETUNE using instrument 0, which plays a 2nd note, either a perfect 5th above or a perfect 4th below the written note. This opens up many possibilities for more harmonic expression.
I had some ideas of how I wanted to explore this in the context of ambient music. In the next few tutorials, I’ll be composing music with a combination of filters and custom instruments. I go pretty fast in this tutorial, so if you don’t know how custom instruments or filters work, I’d recommend checking out some of my previous tutorials.
