Fight Club Update #5: all outta beef

Whats going on gang? How we all doing? You know what time it is, its time to talk about that thing were not supposed to talk about. Fight Club.

I've made some pretty good progress this week, and as such I'm happy to report the Street Beefs segment, which is actually the entire first section of the video is now 99% complete. The last 1% is just polishing up the video itself, adding clip transitions, some effects here and there, etc. But the whole segment is written, recorded, and aside from those few edits, its done. I could probably upload the whole thing right now in its current state, put it that way. Its clocking in at just about 1 hour long. Which is kinda nuts when you consider that's like, 3 times longer than my entire first video on the topic of fight clubs back in 2021. In the end, i got interviews with 3 former street beefs fighters for the segment, I don't think i extracted any shocking revelations or amazing feelgood moments from them or anything, I'm not that good of an interviewer, but their presence definitely adds some legitimacy to the video, and honestly I didn't think a video on this kinda stuff would really be complete or authentic without the voices of some of the people who've actually done it.

Honestly the hardest part of this week was writing, and subsequently scrapping, and entire bridge part of the video that was going to sit in between the main Street Beefs and KOTS segments. I wrote it, re-wrote it, read it, re-read it, then got paranoid that it just seemed a bit like unnecessary filler and scrapped it. I think I'll try and re-work it into part of the ending, but for now, I'm just going straight from Beef to KOTS. It did cost me a couple of days writing tho, which fucking sucks, but it is what it is to quote Max Holloway.

I'm a bit unsure how long the video will be roughly, like the Street Beefs segment ran long because there's so many characters in that organization to talk about. But for KOTS its a bit different, its not quite as character driven as SB, because fighters generally just don't hang around that long in such a brutal org, and really its like, how many times can i write like "and then in this one fight a dude gets his head bounced off some concrete". Its a fairly bleak topic to talk about, and that's before I even get into the questionable ethics of letting so many neo-nazis fight into your club. So yeah however long it runs, unfortunately the back half of this video is gonna be a real fucking bummer compared to the first half lol.

But, things are on track at least, and this week I'm slightly more optimistic that this may actually get done by the end of October and still leave me time to get the End of Year video done! Fingers crossed!

So with this officially being spooky season I figured I'd also just take a minute at the end of these posts to recommend a favourite horror game of mine each week! This week, for the inaugural Shock-tober post, I'd like to introduce you to YUPPIE PSYCHO:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aUESdHCOIA

You'll probably recognize the music in that trailer, because I've used the majority of this games soundtrack in my videos over the years. Yuppie Psycho is a 2D survival horror title, and holy fuck I love this game. It's a satirical look at corporate office life through the lens of horror. You are Brian Pasternack, on your first day of work in the mysterious organization known as Sintra Corp. Yuppie Psycho does such an amazing job of satirizing the daily grind of corporate culture through its characters, from the brown nosing middle manager who is quite literally out to stab you in the back, to the Company Owner who rides into the office on a horse and in full Napoleonic era uniform, demanding everyone swear fealty to him. Also your first day on the job sees you with only one task: KILL THE WITCH. This game is both genuinely hilarious and genuinely fucking creepy, and while its not perfect, (there's some insta-death boss fights that can really fuck off) it's currently on sale for 6 bucks so it's absolutely worth it.

Also real quick, I am so happy the Ankalaev era is over, never to return.

Catch you next week!
