Dead by Daylight

Edit: The old fix worked for me all the way through mid spring 2022 or so, but now the game is back to forcefully preventing it from working. There is now an option to switch to 16:9 in the game but it does not affect the menu, so parts of the character may be out of view at 32:9 and wider. I'd say we're better off playing and supporting games like the new Aliens, Back 4 Blood and such.

The game was released in 2016 but has always had vert- scaling of the FOV. Until 2017, it was possible to put the common YFOV lines in the config to work around that, but then the developer removed the possibility and famously claimed it had been an unfair advantage (unlike the extra vertical FOV at 4:3, apparently).

Personally, I was quite into the idea of the game, as I used to be a huge fan of horror films and now after all the latest updates introducing the well-known horror characters to the game, it was a shame that I could not play it at 21:9. Sometimes a friend would push me to play and I would do it in 16:9 windowed but I mostly avoided the game.

The use of Easy Anti-Cheat also made any hacks practically impossible.

Every now and then I launched the game to claim the free items, and every time I saw the vert- scaling. Today it was different and I was very surprised and even excited about the possibility of the developer having changed their mind. To my disappointment, it was the YFOV tweak making the difference, remaining in my config but suddenly being functional after a recent update. I searched for threads on this on Steam and reddit but found nothing but reports of vert- scaling as recent as a week ago.

Now the good news and the reason I'm sharing this with you is that this is a great opportunity to play the game if you own it until the developer notices the oversight and blocks the command again. I don't think we should share the knowledge with the public (or even friends that may?) because that will quickly translate in the developer becoming aware as well and very likely taking action, which will be detrimental for everybody.
I'm sure that the knowledge will come out sooner or later, but we may have a few days or much longer until then.
