Gods Will Fall ultrawide and wider solution
Added 2022-01-06 23:04:23 +0000 UTCRemember how in my end-of-year post I said we were on track to many more fixes to come? This being my fourth day of posting in a row, I think we're off to a wonderful start of the year. Naturally, I will have to slow down, but for now we have what we have. :)
What I like to do whenever there is an increase of attention to a particular game or if I get access to something relevant is looking up the ultrawide support of the game. That is exactly what I did for Gods Will Fall and found nothing on PCGW. I then saw the "Ultrawide support?" post at the very top of the Steam discussions. It was created a year ago and the responses indicated that the game lacked any ultrawide support. There was no sign of anybody having solved it in that year.
So I had to get on it! The use of IL2CPP made disassembling the game a bit trickier but thankfully the code responsible for the presence of the black bars was nothing extraordinary. Hacking this game and removing the pillarboxing was straightforward, though even that taught me a little something that may be of use for some Unity games.
It is clearly a controller-oriented game with few players, but I think that any game deserves to support ultrawide, and so it will from now on!
