Road 96 FOV changer

This game was supposed to be my break from the recent streak of solutions (though even today I had worked on improving another game). I knew Road 96 supported ultrawide, so the idea was that I'd just enjoy it as is.

That never happens though, does it? My knowledge is my burden!

I'm not too picky about FOV and I don't expect every game to have an FOV slider. The majority of games I play are tolerable as they are. This one was different though. It felt like walking around and looking at the world through binoculars. After about 20 minutes, I had enough as I remembered that I had seen something about an FOV changer for the game.

I went to PCGW and downloaded SuicideMachine's Cheat Table, but neither of its two options was applicable to the Microsoft Store version or had any hints to finding the associated functions. So I looked at the game code once more, but since it was my rest time, so to speak, I didn't want to commit to it, and I just messaged SuicideMachine.

I asked if he remembered the base FOV value or the class name associated with the function. He said no, but also that he'd be able to look into it later today. Well, my intent was still to play the game, not wait, so I just continued to investigate.

I soon found the base FOV value to be 50 (apparently PCGW states as much, but I hadn't looked) and then I was able to control it.

After going through a few unrelated functions, I nailed it down to the one that allowed to do this in a stable way.

My next step at that stage was to modify my recent Battlefield V script for FWS and just go with that, however, FWS reminded me that it cannot inject into Microsoft Store apps. I had to scrap the script.

Cheat Engine is, of course, a different story and a reliable tool, so I just made the findings into a trainer that allows not only to control the FOV but also see it in real time. I haven't done this in a while!

I successfully tested the solution through a chapter, and so I'm sharing it with the public and letting you know before anyone else! I'm going to play more tomorrow and hopefully take better screenshots to represent the game. I'll probably update this post with a few and post about the fix on the usual platforms.
