. . . the alcohol dissolves the glue between cork and top-section. Also, the alcohol dehydrates the cork being a solvent. . . . it eventually makes the cork more brittle.

Hey, Ralfy. You caught me with „not wetting the cork“. Why not? I go through the bottles at least once per year to check the full level and such. I‘m sure I‘ve wetted many a cork reading labels and such.

. . . poor quality cork used to seal the stopper. Also, look out for tiny cracks in the porcelain which can cause seeping. Also, has someone else been 'dipping' your bottle and not telling 😨

I was given a bottle of Chivas Royal Salute in the fancy pottery bottle. I had a nip, then left it alone for about a year (i prefer single malts). When I went to it - eventually. I found a 1/4 of the bottle had disappeared as the cork had partially disintegrated. Your thoughts, Ralfy?

I opened a bottle of BenRiach 12-year sherry matured 8 years ago and it’s still as fresh as ever! And what a belter :)

Good info. I for one needed to hear that, my whisky journey is still young and I'm always anxious about bottles older than 6 months.
