Next Fantasy Project: A poll

Don't get it twisted: PotV is far from over. We are at most at the halfway point and I have story ideas that stretch beyond it, to the point that I'm happy to continue as long as there's interest, which shows no signs of waning. I know what you guys are here for, and I'm dedicated to continuing to provide it.

HOWEVER:

I also love writing fantasy and magic and all that shit. It's what I wrote before PotV in fact, and I'd love to return to it.

With that in mind I'm going to be poking around additional word-count toward some additional ideas. This will be a reward to myself for meeting my words per day on PotV, so it won't slow my pace down there (and if it does I'll hit the brakes). The first step will be completing Power Ballad, so that I can give closure to that story for a potential relaunch on Royal Road.

The second, however, I want to put up to a vote for you, my wonderful patrons. This is to gauge interest and is nonbinding. But I have a pair of concepts. Both are romances. Both also involve a bigger, stronger woman with a smaller man, because it's about time the ripped-lady fanciers got their turn.

CONCEPT 1: Headless Over Heels

Setting: a dark fantasy sword-and-sorcery type world with early modern tech equivalent to roughly the turn of the 20th century.

Characters: Our FMC is Annalise, a wandering Verdugo--a judge, jury, and executioner to the crown with an enchanted greatsword and no head. She's a dullahan, with a bunch of different heads she can wear, all of which change her personality and skills. There's a flinty swordswoman named Lisa, a verbose noblewoman named Anna, a flirty sorceress named Liz, etc.

Our MMC is Seth, a desperate cutpurse with a quick tongue and tattoo-based magic. Annalise spares his life and hires him to be her personal thief. She drags him along on her mission to execute enough villains and monsters to reach her quota before the end of the year.

Headless Over Heels won't exactly be harem, because every head considers itself part of one whole individual named Annalise. But it will be somewhat less mono-feeling than my other works due to the nature of the FMC.

CONCEPT 2: Wife After Death II

Setting: The same setting as Wife After Death!!! Takes place a few years later.

Characters: Our FMC is Adrienne. She used to be called Eight. She is an eldritch starspawn from another dimension who very nearly ate heaven and had to be stopped. She is the antagonist from Wife After Death I. She is very, very sorry, and wants to be helpful and prove she's worth trusting again. Her seven sisters love her, but many of them have a certain amount of apprehension about her.

Our MMC is Hector, a wily and cunning hedge magician for hire. He is trying to stay alive during the collapse of his civilization. He fails, and meets Adrienne, who offers to bring him back to life as her warlock. In his waking hours, she'll help him keep himself and his friends alive. When he sleeps, he'll return to her, help to clear out the dangerous ruins of heaven, and aid her in gathering the power her sisters are reluctant to give her.

Irene, Bina, Caspar, Jordan, Peat Moss, and the rest of the gang all return for the sequel, though Caspar and Irene are not the PoV characters in this one.

So patrons. What sounds more interesting? A new thing, or a return to the realm of Sisters and Warlocks?

Comments

While I personally voted for Headless Over Heels, I do hope Wife After Death 2 will be considered sometime after. I do like the idea of Eight having a redemption and finding a romance of her own with Hector. They sound like they can be cute together. Wife After Death was the story that introduced me to your stories and was a big fan of it! Eldritch lovers FTW

Isaac

Honestly a dark fantasy sword-and-sorcery type world with early modern tech sounds really interesting.
