Nurse, inspired by AI

Dear patrons,

The entertainment industry is changing rapidly; you all know about AI. Lately, I’ve seen more magnificent drawings created by artificial intelligence online. I must admit that some of the work is truly amazing and inspires me.

I've spent many hours experimenting with Midjourney this week and have created a lot of great drawings that I can use as references for my future comics.

I'm thinking about how I can use AI in my work. I may be able to combine them in the future. The main goal is to improve quality and productivity.

I'm still working on quality.

I generated a nurse in Midjourney and completely redrew her, changing her anatomy and pose. You can see the differences in the PSD file. This is my first collaboration with AI, and I loved how it turned out.

In the future, I plan to master Stable Diffusion.

Righ now, I'm working on a new comic, creating concepts, and experimenting with my drawing style. I plan to publish the first page next week.

If you share your opinion about AI in the comments, I will be grateful.

Thanks for the compliment.👍 Sometimes you need a fresh look. And I want to improve my drawing skills. I think AI is a good tool for learning.

Rino99

Yes, this is similar to what I do, I get inspiration and new ideas.

Rino99

Yes, the issue of copyright is a complex topic. Thanks for your support.👍

Rino99

Honestly, what do you need AI for? You're already really good, way beyond needing a crutch like AI-generated reference.

Alfons

I do like this idea of having AI come up with an idea for a picture and having the human look at it and think "Okay, now how can I improve on this?" If more artist take this approach, I would be okay with this.

hentailover76

No, you expressed correctly and I understood. I was just giving my thoughts on AI as you asked, but it seems my opinion had to be challenged and their opinion forced on me. My apologies for any distractions. Your art pieces looks great!!!

I love your art and I don't hate you for this, BUT I just want to mention one important issue with Midjourney (and similar projects like Stable Diffusion etc.), which it looks like nobody else has commented on here. The creators of Midjourney and other AI art models have used artists' work without consent, without credit, and for commercial purposes probably not covered by 'fair use' principles. This alone is reason enough for me not to want to use them. If an AI model comes along that was trained on works freely given for that purpose, then I will use it. But not Midjourney. I agree that some of the other objections to AI are a bit silly (I don't think using it for references is lazy or corrupts your soul or whatever lol), but *this* objection is important, because it is about disregarding artists' wishes concerning commercial use of their work.

pickleherring

Yes, I agree with you.👍

Rino99

Yes absolutely true. Finding references is a problem, sometimes it is impossible to find what you need, and even in the desired style.

Rino99

Thank you for your kind words.👍🤍👍 For me, AI is a way to improve my skills. I'm not going to give up traditional 2D drawing. I will continue to do what I do, but I want to be better, to constantly progress.

Rino99

Yes, that's the reality, we all have to adapt.

Rino99

I agree, that's why I create my work from scratch.

Rino99

Perhaps I expressed my thought incorrectly. This drawing was not created by AI. This is my art. Yes, I used a pose created by AI, but still, from the sketch to the final painting, this is my original work.

Rino99

I see no harm in it if it is being used for reference or even for backgrounds, but that is just my thoughts on it.

Full_Metal

Seems like a lot of people just saw "AI" and immediately panicked without reading the whole thing. You said you would use it for REFERENCES that you would then REDRAW & whatnot in your original art style. Which I personally think is a good thing, the biggest pain for artists and consumers alike is finding a good reference. Can't tell you how many times I was commissioning artist and they asked "Do you have a reference for that?" And I have to scour the internet for something that looked like the picture I have in my head.

Your not right but you're not totally wrong. It's all about personal satisfaction. Even for those who cut corners. There's nothing wrong with it, but never better because of it. Real artists do art for art's sake not for media's sake. If an artist's goal is to get a bunch of followers and likes then they fall short of greater potential creativity due to majority's favor, rather then personal endeavors.

I feel like everyone is in a different position, but you, Rino99, already have fantastic anatomy, figure drawing and character design skills. It is what drew me to your work as well as the content. Also, the time spent drawing concepts is how you keep and develop your skills. Even though it takes time, it's worth it. As a consumer/patron, it matters enormously to me that it is traditional artwork and not AI generated. Where AI astounds me is the ability to do things like lighting, effects, depth and make images look like drawings/paintings/photographs at the same time. But, I am never impressed with 'the artist' who created it, rather the program and the uncanny nature of the image. I look at AI art and almost can't believe it's real. I would happily use AI to colour and render drawings, but for me that is the time consuming and challenging bit. I'm sure if I were a professional colourist or landscapes concept artist I would not feel so happy.

Alex S

The result is good but you didn't make it, the AI did If you'd had it to begin with, you'd have never developed or learned Anyone can make it, so there will no longer be a relationship with the artist Eventually, no one will have any skill and we will stop learning how to look and make art

Alex S

This is basically my opinion put a lot better than I would have just typed out. (I'm sick so not feeling like putting much effort into anything at the moment.)

NMilbury

I'm glad you're interested in adapting and using the new tools to benefit you and your art, rather than panicking and holding tight to some very silly ideas like so many entertainers seem to be doing.

Twister

while it is true that AI art does look impressive, i'm sort of slightly against it because it makes one feel lazy and talentless letting a machine do all the work for you.

Phoenix_Pipe94

I can see it's pros and cons. I know zero on how AI programs work, so depending on the amount of control you have for your image is whether it would be beneficial for me, especially for cityscapes or elaborate chambers. Since AI is still fairly new it can be a touchy subject for many artists. There are artists that believe that AI is a crutch to lean on rather than developing one's skills. But for me, I ask myself, is it self rewarding? Did I accomplish my goal? Am I satisfied with the final result? In the end it comes down to whether you're happy with what you produced. You're always going to have people who like your work or hate it, and as long as you enjoy making it, WHO CARES ABOUT THE HATERS!

x-wilderness-x

Thank you for your advice.👍

Rino99

You are absolutely right 👍

Rino99

I understand your concerns, but I assure you that I will not give up my original art. I still create all my work from scratch. I just plan to use AI to increase my skill.

Rino99

If you plan on using Stable Diffusion .. I would maybe suggest trying out SD platforms locally instead of having to pay for a full featured environment like many sites offer on the net. There are a couple of GREAT local GUI for stable diffusion like : Automatic1111 and ComfyUI. You might want to check those out if that's a path you plan on looking into. I'm no expert on either, far from it but from the little I know, with the help of ControlNet you can pretty much do anything "pose wise". The MAIN issue i'm having right now with either is to have multiple characters interact appropriately in a scene. Keep up the great work.

CaptBullship

Please don't get near AI... I see enough watered down art as it is...

Shelby

AI I feel isn't meant to be used full on, but maybe being used for when you need to color things and wanna be spontaneous about it
