2026-01-04 13:12:40 +0000 UTCI'm happy Chillih picked up on what Senjougahara meant by saying she'd be with someone else if they were a better match than Araragi - the core of the message is just to not take relationships for granted. No one is a better match for her than Araragi as he is now, she's extremely happy with their current relationship and wouldn't want to change it. That said, people can always change. I think being able to acknowledge that there's a chance a relationship wouldn't last forever shows a real strength. I also love the line 'No one is special, but you can be special in the eyes of someone else'. It's such a great way to touch on Araragi's imposter syndrome and how he feels like what happened to him could happen to anyone else - even if he's not inherently special in any way, it's still important for him to understand that so many others in his life see him as a special person.

2025-10-07 15:27:49 +0000 UTC"It's like he knows what's the correct thing, but he doesn't do it. He turns his eye, his gaze, in a different direction". Great observations from Nesa. I think Araragi's character design hints at this part of his personality. One eye always covered by his hair. Very perceptive, but at the same time, always willingly blind to inconvenient parts of others (and himself, of course). I think willful ignorance is one of the bigger themes of Monogatari that we explore a lot in Owari. Araragi choosing not to notice the abused Oikura in her ruined home. It's easier to see her as a "math fairy" that will solve his problems. The class making Oikura into the culprit, not maliciously, but because it would be too much hassle to accuse a teacher of cheating. Oikura pretending not to understand what happened to her mother. Shinobu being extremely dishonest with herself and her feelings. Everyone is carefully deciding what to believe and what to ignore. Not lying, but playing it safe to not be hurt. Picking the most convenient path, avoiding the danger of thinking too much about something. One of the reasons why I think watching Koyomimonogatari before Owari works great is that you are able to pick up on the irony of Araragi's last monologue. Going on about how he has all the time in the world to work on allowing himself to be happy, so much time to think and live, while walking to his death moments later. What Ononoki says in this episode made a huge impact on me when I first watched it. For some reason, it sometimes feels good to just stop trying to solve your issues. To stop having expectations of anything good happening, and excuse it with "toughing it out". Then when asked about your issues, you talk about them in a way to garner sympathy and make yourself feel better about not doing anything. Every time I feel like I'm starting to fall into this mindset, I remember this scene.

2025-09-23 18:21:01 +0000 UTCAnother sub preference here: Senjou says "omoi?" Which can mean (as translated) "Is that a burden for you?" but omoi can be written as either "思い" or "重い" which each mean "Thoughts/Feelings?" or "Too heavy?".. Ultimately it means the same thing, but Senjou asking if something is "too heavy" for him just seems so appropriate given her history. Also, those "I love you"s are the first we've seen from them that actually use the more romantically serious/strong "aishiteru." She's literally in the arc for all of 3 minutes and she steals the spotlight. If you guys feel like watching Kizu, I would recommend doing that. We're in the endgame now, if you wanna watch Kizu for fun or just as a reference point for where Araragi was at the start and how things have changed to this point... Definitely a good time to do that. Enough people have already brought up Dream Span too, you guys can definitely check that out if you want to recall that sword as well. Monogatari has changed how I watch anime. I rewatch it all the time and honestly, sometimes other shows just feel empty. My standards went pretty high and I struggle to watch anything that has mediocre writing. I watched Mono as it aired starting with Nise, missed the Bake start but waiting for seasons was pretty painful. Took like 8 years to watch it all. Thankfully they started releasing more - and while it's technically a whole different thing it's still very much Monogatari.

2025-09-22 05:26:18 +0000 UTCWe already know Dream Span's name and what it does. You can check back to Shinobu Time ep. 2 around 10 min mark or stay in the dark. Both choices are... interesting. Also, don't be depressed. I rewatch Monogatari at least once per year and it works.
My abba taught me a few things too, like how to rip the skin off by using my own mouth
2025-09-21 17:32:47 +0000 UTCBtw Gaen asking Araragi to choose between Senjo, Hanekawa, and Shinobu was a reference to that part in Shinobu Time where Shinobu and Ononoki were arguing with Araragi to choose who he likes most between Hachikuji, Ononoki, and Shinobu lol If you think about the chronology of events this arc takes place right after Shinobu Time but in terms of novel order this is like 5 books later

2025-09-21 17:13:35 +0000 UTCPeople meme on Senjou a lot, but that line was exactly what Araragi wanted to hear. She's basically saying she's with him because she wants to, not because she needs to. The implication here is that she'd switch to someone better immediately, but there is no one better to switch to.

2025-09-21 16:52:33 +0000 UTCRemember back in monogatari 2nd season, when they were being chased by darkness and shinobu went on a little flashback about her story meeting the first kin ? Araragi asked her for his name, and she just said "I don't know, I never call humans by their name". In fact, I don't think she ever called araragi by his name (so far). Maybe. All I remember was her calling tsukihi's name once during the phoenix arc in tsukimonogatari, but that's cuz she's refering to the japanese word for moon which is "tsuki". Just a small detail in case you missed it. But seriously this show does have so many things to talk about, and the best part is that it's not even about the plot or story. That scene with araragi and senjou about how she thinks that there are no absolutes in human relationship, and hence why people needs to keep on improving themselves to keep being special in someone's eyes. That short farewell between shinobu and her first kin. How heartfelt her words were in regards to where she stands right now. The dialogues of this show just felt rewarding to watch. Feels like a lot of times you learn something new about them, appreciate something new, which makes the character just the more richer.

2025-09-21 14:21:37 +0000 UTCWatching Monogatari as a seasonal is also a unique experience compared to watching it batch like this because you get to experience it weekly with the rest of us and talk about the episode right when it drops! Also imagine being a fan of Monogatari after Zoku and waiting for 6 years without knowing if any is ever going to come 😭😭 We're unbelievably blessed that we're getting more and the quality of the animation is still so good...
