Some context that was left out. But paul talked with sylphies parents about situation and he came up with a plan to separate them by force because they felt they were both becoming too co dependant on one another and it'd be in best interest to separate them. It's kind of why paul didn't like rudeus' answer at dinner table when he said "no, but it is best for me". It was the wrong answer. Thus, paul tough love. as for some of the difficult to handle emotion stuff. It's hard to contextualize time skips. I mean one minute you're having the scene where you find out paul cheated and next they're already born 9+ months later. That's a lot of time to heal and figure things out but for us it's just been 5 minutes.

2025-12-14 14:32:37 +0000 UTCI know the show doesn't add a whole lot of this so wanted to give a bit of perspective, although I'm only at 3:37 currently so you may end up touching on some of it later with speculation and I'm just not sure yet. Also I try to always keep my info at stuff that isn't included in any of the anime so far, while seeming unlikely to be brought up later on in seasons that come out after this part, so shouldn't be any spoilers. Some background for the characters is that Paul is from a noble family (hence the last name), and in a world that isn't super set on monogamy, that tends to be extra so for nobility. And as we've seen and heard, Paul is very much a womanizer (but like, look at the dude, it's pretty much moths to a flame). On the other hand there is a religion that has a huge focus on monogamy, which Zenith grew up with and is part of. After Zenith joined a party with Paul, she fell for him, but she knew what he was like. Her idea was then to sleep with him, knowing he would get with other women, and then use that to basically get over him. Well surprise for them, Rudy turned out to be a one and done sorta baby, and when Zenith told Paul, he stepped up. Married Zenith, quit adventuring, got a place and a job so he could raise his family, and on top of that remained faithful from that point on. Until Zenith got pregnant. In their world, common knowledge is that having sex while pregnant isn't safe for the baby, so once they learned she was pregnant he was cut off. Which as we then see later this episode, Lilia takes that as her moment to strike.

2025-12-14 14:25:18 +0000 UTCYeah, it is kind of unhinged that Rudy plans to "groom" Sylphie to be his perfect wife. But let's be real, that is in the same category of an alcoholic saying "yeah, I will only drink one beer today". He says he is going to do it, but would he really? After all, he says a lot of dumb shit all the time :D On that note, it's hard to really criticize him for it. He really likes Sylphie and let's say YOU get another chance at life with all your memories intact. It's not like you can just forget that you are older mentally. Physically they are both kids and besides that one accident, he hasn't done anything untoward. Dunno, I think if I were reincarnated with my memories intact and I would meet a beautiful girl that I like and she likes me I would look forward to growing up too. I think it speaks volumes about him actually thinking about spending the rest of his life with her in this context - after all, he knows how it is to be an adult and has the sense of time of one. Also it's not like he is only thinking about doing naughty things. But yeah, it's a lot for most people to take in ^^

Yes Ghislaine is a badass (correct pronunciation is like they say it in the anime, "Gee-lane") I love the way this show shoves moral and dramatical dilemmas in your face and forces you to reckon with them, really makes you think (even though it can be uncomfortable.) This is a story that teaches us that "bad" people can sometimes do good things and even learn from their mistakes, as well as the kind of paths that they would have to tread to become better people. Sometimes it's through effort of their own, sometimes it's through a natural shifting of circumstances. Of course that's just the surface, there are many many more things going on in this story and I'm excited for you to experience the journey

Although it's crazy that THIS episode is your first reaction after a while lol And yeah Rudeus is basically planning on grooming a 7 year old, which is absolutely fucked up. However, as you've said such nasty things are a part of reality and it's really unique that an anime actually shows things like this (or of course the whole pregnancy stuff in this episode).
