About why this show has a pervert MC. In Japan roughly 2% of the population lives like Earthdeus (Earth Rudeus) did, like a hikkikomori (shut in) NEET (not in employment education or training), and they usually end up being pervs who jerk off all day. This is from an interview the author had a few years ago: Some of the most controversial aspects of Mushoku Tensei are at the very start because it begins with Rudeus at his lowest. Looking back, are there ever times when you think “Maybe that was a little over-the-top” or “Maybe I should have held back a little”? Or do you think the balance was right for the story you wanted to tell? Rifujin na Magonote: I think the balance was right. Because he's a controversial character, his mountain of regrets makes the act of redoing life more meaningful. Of course, I have no issue with criticizing Rudeus at the beginning stage, and it's up to you to decide whether you don't want to see the story because of that. With that said, if there's someone like Rudeus close to you and that person were to have even a slight change of heart and try to start over, I sincerely hope that you won't abandon them on the spot.

From what he says, it’s not like he had any real friends before that either... maybe a couple of short term ones at most. He grew up with no real connections, zero social life, watching porn, playing video games and posting on weird forums with other degenerates. He was obviously a traumatized, broken person who was both mentally and emotionally stunted.

It is definitely so refreshing to have a story treat things so realistically. As for Eris and Ghislaine's reaction, you're on the right track in asking if she's seen stuff like that before. The world they live in is pretty brutal, just like feudal times in our world. It wasn't uncommon back then for even children to watch public executions. I would imagine a spoiled noble rich girl in a world of constant political strife and violence would get desensitized pretty quickly. Also I agree with Nesa's takes on "age" in a reincarnation story. There is definitely more nuance to the situation than a "30-40 year old in a child's body." Rudeus does have inner thoughts and memories that are very mature, but at the same time he acts like a child outside of his own choice sometimes (like in ep 1 and 2 where most people just skip by the times he's hugging his dad when he's scared to go outside, picking his nose, being overly curious and learning quickly.) That's also besides thinking about it biologically, because his brain IS the brain of a 7 year old. There is no refuting that. Regardless of the consensus, it doesn't excuse any of the things Rudeus does even if he were a mature child or adult in child's body. Those are still mistakes and flaws. Oh, and one last thing in case you don't know the etymology of the -dere tropes. "Dere" in those words means sweet and lovey, and the first word describes their outward appearance. All of them have barriers to get through to unlock their ideal "lovey" center. Tsun = Cold/mean Kuu = Cool/emotionless Yan = Crazy/obsessed

I also don’t like when our MC is overpowered for no reason or has some broken skill in Isekai as a generic trope. But given that Rudy doesn’t have some power that’s unheard of (wordless spell casting, Sylphie can do it and he’s not the first case of it) and then we see the kind of swordplay that occurs making Ghislaine on a completely different level than anyone we’ve seen before.. I just found it so refreshing. Plus Rudy was going to lose this fight, he was beat without her - losing to just some random thugs.
