here is my edited and full opacity reaction to frieren episode 26 "the height of magic"
WOO this episode was SOOO good, we got to see a really good fight and wow ubel has absolutely amazed me!

I really like the point you bring up at the beginning about the difference between Serie and Frieren and their view on human magic. I also have a feeling it ties in really well with just how long they've lived too. Serie lived through the genocide of her race by the demons with the demon kings command of "kill all elves" that we see in the Flamme/Frieren flashback ep, so she probably attributes that to demons seeing elves as threats due to their magic power level and she wants to shield it to only people who have enough talent to deal with threats. I don't see Serie as being purely malicious in her elitism as she remembers Flamme's favourite spell last episode even though she acts like it's stupid, I think there's some degree of tenderness and care there. I could be wrong, but I like to think so anyways. Whereas Frieren is, as Flamme said, a mage in an era of peace, she has a hopeful outlook for humanity and wants to see them thrive regardless of the threat demons pose and if they would pose a threat to her. I love how it ties in with her experiences too and makes her journey with Himmel and now Fern and Stark even more heart-warming to watch as they influence her and keep bringing out her lighter side. Also it's hilarious to me that Frieren teaches Fern to predominantly fight with basic magic, and then we see her fight here and she's literally creating black holes, bending reality and even comes with a literal dead mans switch spell as well hahaha
