I really don’t think the whole Sports Day question was meant to be anything more than a device to show Mon rebelling against his mom and Kim feeling he had to capitulate to anything Mon said to keep him as his boyfriend. I think Mon was picking anything he could think of to support the side that he knew would irritate his mother, and some of those arguments were indeed pretty lame. And as far as the debate, I think Mr. Nut did the smart thing in trying to turn it into a learning opportunity, which a debate certainly can be. And the end result did get things back on track to having Sports Day, so I guess it was a successful idea. (I personally would’ve hated a Sports Day, especially if it was mandatory, but I also think I probably would’ve been in the vast minority.) All of that aside, it was great to see Kit finally coming into his own with a project that he could feel proud of and that used his artistic abilities. It shows he’s not nearly as far apart from his talented siblings as he has always felt.

You know, the Sportsday discussion is actually not very new at least in less competitive countries. Because it is always so much pressure to perform in random disciplines, casting out the not-so-sporty people even more. In my school in was mandatory like a normal schoolday (you couldn't skip it and it was less Group sports and more "you have to jump this far/run this fast/throw the ball this far.... to get a certificate" and there were bars you have to archieve for a certain age, outstanding performance got you a "Master-certificate" and anything lower just a "Participation-certificate" - I still remember thast one time i only got a participation one after I was ill for three weeks and my first day at school was sportday. no exeptions were made and you got the certificate handed out to you later in class with anounciation which one. - I absolutely don't know how it is handled in Thailand or other countries but I could have said a thing or two against Sportsday ... but you are right: It was not portrayed well to the extend that we could side with Mon here. But i guess it's okay, although we always want to root for our babys... they are just kids and not always on the right side.. I guess we have to learn that.
