Help Request: New Alchemy Pills

First, thanks for joining my Patreon. I really appreciate the support.
So, from comments yesterday on RR and things that have been said in the past, I'm beginning to feel that my creativity with alchemy pills is somewhat limited. I can think of plenty of ways for an alchemist to support a run-of-the-mill adventurer, but I have a harder time thinking of ways he could help simple townsfolk, people in the Pavilion, or even himself beyond basic cultivation resources. (Trope-laden roofie like substances to aside.)
If anyone has any great ideas, feel free to share them below. You can list the name you would give your pill and its intended effects.

Maybe some pills that temporarily boost stats. Like strengt, dexterity, endurance. Or pills that are supposed to make one activity better/ faster like running or swimming. I also remember from other story's a pill that makes you better at remembering what you study durring it's effect. Or a pill that makes you better at certain forms of qi manipulation (Like meridian builder but for crafting professions).

Something that calcifies the flow of chi so that users become much more powerful at the cost of future ascension potential. Mortals can gain the power of the weakest cultivators, and those at the end of their natural path get a small boost to cultivation.

2024-04-16 15:19:29 +0000 UTCI assume pills would work better for mortals, so a mortal might require a rank-1 pill to regenerate organs or grow out lost limbs, a rank-2 pill for permanent alterations like adding cat ears or changing sex, and a rank-3 pill to permanently add a constitution or Qi Affinity, but the required ranks would be higher for cultivators . As such it might be cheaper to give a mortal a pill to give them a temporary ability to scry for precious metals, or make them a genius for an hour, rather than buy a pill for cultivators. ...And you would force-feed your clan heirs improvement pills young to increase their future prospects, contributing to Arrogant Young Master Syndrome. Anyway, some applications: Hair Growth pill, for when a Jade Beauty gets their hair cut in combat. Eagle Eye pill to correct nearsightedness. Brawn pill to convert fat into muscles. Cleansing pill to remove heavy metals or bad qi from mortals living in a bad environment. Symmetry pill for making you prettier. Warmth pill for surviving a snowstorm. Buoyancy pill (instead of life vest). Scentlessness pills for traveling the wilderness without getting eaten. Digestion pills for stomach-ache. Grass-eater pills for digesting cellulose, if ingredients for fasting pills can't be found. Strength pill for beasts of burden. Rubber Body pill to make difficult childbirths easier. Life Support pill to oxygenate tissues and keep someone alive even when their heart stops. Dreamer pills to give someone pleasant dreams. Radical Perspective pills, to give someone a temporary boost to visual-spatial processing (at the expense of language centers) if you need that to better control qi for a breakthrough. Truthsayer pills for interrogations. Contentment/Discontent pills to make a population more or less prone to revolting. As long as you have a good model of how alchemical effects work, you can just ask 'how would an alchemist fix [mundane problem]?', 'OK, but what if they don't have ingredients for that?', and 'Is this better than how a normal cultivator would fix the problem? BTW, isn't non-pill alchemy a thing? Can't the MC be asked to make incenses, or bath salts, or even condiments?

2024-04-15 08:09:01 +0000 UTCAnother idea would be to find more forms then pills. There is potions, salves, powders, gases, and more. Have the MC experiment trying to make the pill in different forms and see if it leads to different effects. Increase duration, decreased side effect, etc. For Pill idea's they can just be anything. The idea is by utilizing pills you can make and do anything. An example would be [Ghost Hand, Meridian Pill - Cultivation Edition] - A pill which instead of containing medical energy, contains someones QI. This qi is "programed" by the Marital Grandmaster to move in a specific way. The Qi is overlayed over the user's Qi and moves to create a meridian. It doesn't finished it but allows the person to get a feel for it and a general idea. These pills are cultivator specific and are all custom made using the Qi of the customer. Usually made by Masters for their disciples learning their cultivation technique. A common pill outside of the wastes. The pill genre is Ghost Hand, the type's are Meridian Construction, Muscle Saturation, Filter Creation, and Whirlpool Building. The Edition is the use, Cultivation Technique, Martial Technique, and Crafts Technique. This pill is no that common thought since using it reveals information about their cultivation technique and can be used to cursed the host of the Qi inside.

Physical Growth Pill - Utilizing conflicting elemental toxins to your natural qi causing a reaction to create growth hormones increasing your hight. Or version of this pill can decrease height. This works because during martial disciple you saturate all muscle groups in QI. The brain is a muscle. By introducing specific toxic energy to the QI that fills that region the conflict can create an unexpected by product. MC is able to do this because he can time loop/go back to previous save. Earthly Dao might intervene but after observing what the MC was doing, know it will open up a HUGE new path in alchemy he might let it happen. After all no one is stupid enough to experiment on themselves with toxic energy, plus everyone has been made to believe that toxic energy is not good. So even evil alchemist who use others for experiments don't mess with it since removing it always make the pill more "pure". But the thing is, everything is bad for your health. You just don't know the beneficial ways to use it.

2024-04-13 17:21:30 +0000 UTCOne pretty simple idea would be pills to temporarily (like a couple minutes or maybe an hour at higher levels) give someone an affinity for a different type of Qi. I imagine this would be created using similar materials and techniques to the pool that improves fire affinity, but would only give someone an effect like a temporary peak 9 star or low 8 star earth affinity along with a small amount of qi to go with it. This would be pretty interesting because depending on how the person uses it, leftover qi of the wrong affinity when the pill wears off could have disastrous side effects...

Now that we are on the topic of disturbing pills, then pills that puts various kinds of mental effects on the consumer is also an option, from "study pills" to "loyalty pills".

2024-04-11 17:01:40 +0000 UTCTo be honest there should be plenty of ways he could help ordinary people, just stop thinking of alchemy=pills and start thinking of a scientist with a strong background in chemistry and biology and see what those can do in society for stuff like fertilizers, pest control, breed improvement for plants and possibly animals. Those are already basis for large scale economic influence even without looking at aspects like maybe alchemy that could change a non-cultivator into a cultivator or biological and chemical warfare. But the problem is that I don't think those things fit the world you have build. Everything serves those in power and diverting resources from those in power to those not in power will probably be dealt with harshly (easiest is just to exterminate this separated environment entirely killing everyone and putting new seeds in to try again). Then there is the Dao also manipulating things in a new direction because things are to peaceful here, so both worldly and "over"worldly powers would interfere. Unless what he is doing is actively moving in the direction the worldly Dao wants to move things. At the moment he is just not influential enough to start moving things in meaningful ways, especially if those in power are monitoring karma flows and he is unable to hide from that.

Moreover, its the sort of thing elders/deacons/disciples would not want to be getting from the sects alchemists. So it would make sense for it not to have come up in the story. I'd make it so that a pill/paste/whatever that changes someone's physical characteristics, even temporarily, only works "at rank". And you need higher rank pills for longer changes. I.e. A martial master needs a rank 2 pill to change something for a few hours to a few days. A rank 3 pill for a few weeks to a few months. And a rank 4 pill for a permanent change. This means the expectation is that cosmetic pills need to be nearly perfect to reduce toxin levels. And remember a martial grandmaster would have great eyesight and easily tell if the shade of red isn't perfect. Also, thinking about it, I suspect in this world both men and women would use cosmetic pills. Remember irl, some grey hairs and a few wrinkles makes a man look distinguished. But in cultivator land it makes you look weak - amd shows you have flaws in your cultivation.

They could be poisons, aids for combat, even making them reactive and acting like mini grenades that could do elemental damage depending on the ingredients used! Also I love that you are asking your following for ideas when you are stuck, makes a big difference :)

Pills to help awaken livestock to create better qi food if that's a thing (and it's actually better if the livestock doesn't have any natural talent, that way they will stay at the level you want them to be). Pills to increase attention spans. Pills to replace or reduce the need for sleep (basically allowing a third longer of a life). Pills that glow brightly (lightbulb replacements)? Pills to put under trees to help them grow, grow them into a certain shape, or shift the qualities of the wood. Shapeshifting pills. Viagra. Food pills that never go bad for famines.

2024-04-11 13:07:24 +0000 UTCFormations are more of a help village A B and C with problem XYZ, but something to cure diseases or fast healing that is easy to mass produce, maybe even without Qi in it, something for babies to protect against ailments or a boost to Qi for better growth, and of course the ever classic aphrodisiac, oral contraceptives and 1001 beauty products, but not sure if that is an actual help but it would bring in profit for sure =) Stuff to ward off tired/exhausted or a boost to focus is always useful, temp boost to senses/QI sense, extra speed.

And obviously the main price would be "affinity-enhancing pills" essentially the ability to grant someone cultivation without using the system (though those would be stupendously expansive!). Apart from that really anything that we in our modern world have as drugs would work... Stamina enhancement (yes BOTH ways lol, for work and for fun times after). Pills to prevent pregnancy, minor small pills for headaches, pills to somehow boost social confidence (Alkohol but without bad side effects so people don't become addicts) and all kinds of small effect medicinal things... Those pills may also be creatable without "real magical herbs" and only require specific plants with such miniscule amounts of medicinal energy Cultivators disregarded them completely, once Fang learn herbalism though... He may be able to develop a new breed of "pseudo 0.1 Rank herbs" they do nothing for any cultivator but can make a mortals life 100 times easier!
