couple things - yes, you can break them. actually technically i think it's called a fracture, but it's possible. the kiri storyline - his mom wanted him to get with Rin before Rin's dad arranged anything. His way of carrying out her orders was to seduce Prapai so she'd leave Rin, then he'd leave her to be with Rin. But after the breakup Rin's dad saw how heartbroken Rin was and came up with the arranged marriage with Khem to help Rin stop pining after Pai (and to take care of Khem as his best friend's daughter).
