Zane (full-name Zane Rodriguez) and his brother, Cole, were raised in District 4 on Cursa by their grandparents. They lived a simple life, but with a good roof over their heads and food on the table, they knew that they were better off than many others on the planet.
The boys parents had left both their planet and their two sons behind when they were only young, desperately seeking another kind of life. As the younger son, Zane didn't remember much of his parents, and that never bothered him. To him, his grandmother and grandfather were more than enough.
Zane's grandmother, an intelligent and savvy woman, saw to the boy's education, making sure to pass on as much knowledge as she could to her grandsons. His grandfather had a decent job, and knew that both Zane and Cole's best chance of making something of themselves on Cursa was to be book-smart as well as street-smart.
The two boys had long been the best of friends, though while Cole was a dutiful grandson, doing what he could to help the family, Zane was always a little more rebellious...
Much to his grandparent's worry, as Zane grew older he started to fall in more with groups who were pushing back against the K'Merii, the largest and most troublesome clan on the planet. Eventually he joined the Azure Dawn, and as an intelligent young man he caught the eye of leadership fairly quickly.
Working his way through the ranks, when the day came for Zane to be named leader, he was more than ready for the job. He proved to be a capable and efficient leader, but the K'Merii were growing rapidly in number, and the Azure Dawn were beginning to lose hold of their Districts...
And then suddenly, a huge number of the K'Merii up and left the planet.
Those who remained still proved to be a nuisance, vying for control of the Districts, but between the Azure Dawn and Crimson Dusk they managed to hold them back. It was around this time that Zane got his first glimpse of the fiery Crimson leader, Alisa, and promptly fell head over heels for the red-head (though he'd never admit to that... in public).
While the two clans still have their spats, and even enjoy them, lately they've been looking at ways to work together in the future, and secure both independence and a better standard of living for the people of Cursa.
Though initially they had their reservations about his involvement with the Azure Dawn, after seeing his leadership and determination to help the people of Cursa, Zane's grandparents are very proud of their boy.
