Scraith Reference + color mockups

I don't really do regular ol' lineart anymore, and refs are few and far between too, so I thought this would be interesting to share!
The client gave me a text description to work off of, as well as a good amount of freedom to interpret it, which is a nice challenge. I didn't have as much to work with when it came to color, though, so I did some color mock-ups, which are attached to this post. The story behind this guy is that he's a demon who devours and converts his victims, I believe, which was really inspiring when picking his colors.
In the end he chose the body from #1, and the feathers from #3. Next step is combining those, refining the markings, and really pulling the character together in a cohesive whole. I REALLY like designing characters, apparently.
This piece has been a long time in the making, but I'm feeling really good about the progress I've made on it recently. Hoping to complete it this month.
