Big GIF this time! I believe it's almost 40 frames. The individuals are attached to this post ?
Another picture, another try with this coloring method.
Apparently the line between a sketch being too clean and too messy is incredibly thin. I tried not to over-think the sketch, here, bu that just turned into fiddling and re-drawing a lot o fit. It didn't feel faster or more efficient, just more tedious and frustrating. It wasn't until the end that I realized: I don't need to sketch looser, I need to sketch less. I need to work on my confidence.
The point of this method is for me to distribute detail between the sketch and the color, rather than relying so heavily on either one - I neither want to do a tight figure drawing with flat colors, nor paint a scribble for two hours. What I'm doing now seems to trend towards the worst of both fo those, though; I'm noodling with the sketch, and then trying to use color to fix it.
Case in point, this piece went through a couple ugly duckling phases, in the beginning. I wasn't sure if I would keep it or not, but then I decided to do what I could with it, but then I wasn't sure what marks to make... I still see things I wish I had taken the time to re-sketch or refresh my memory on. I really just need to do more figure drawing, haha. Don't be me!
I am actually really glad I stuck with it, though. For all the struggle I did with the drawing, I love how the color came out. I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of making things light and airy and fun, something I've been chasing for ages. I also love how I did the stockings..
All-around, a good learning experience! While you're here, have this scribble I did beforehand.

Thanks!
